Lanikai Beach is famous for its breathtaking views and aquamarine waters. Imagine tropical perfection with the calmest tides and a tranquil landscape, and you get one of Hawaii's most beautiful bays. The word 'Lani Kai' translates as 'heavenly ocean' and it's easy to see why this stretch of bliss was so named. Sunbathe in this surfing mecca and kayak to the Mokes volcano opposite the beach.

Clearwater Beach, Florida, is famous for its silky white stretches of sand set against turquoise waters. As its name suggests, it is undoubtedly one of the clearest lagoons in the United States, with a sea so clear that you can see right down to the bottom of the shallow waters. It's impossible to finish this short list without Florida's Siesta Keys beach: a vast expanse of cool-touch quartz-white sand bordering the Gulf of Mexico. The back of this eight-mile-long bay is lined with shops, restaurants and vibrant nightlife, as well as a range of beach facilities for a sunny day. Many tourist attractions surround this beautiful beach, including the Ringling Museum, downtown Sarasota and the Mall at the University Town Centre.

Thanksgiving Day in America is a bank holiday that usually takes place towards the end of November. In 1621, the British settlers of Plymouth and the Wampanoag Native Americans are said to have shared the very first Thanksgiving feast as an autumn harvest. Since 1863, Abraham Lincoln has made this an annual bank holidays, during which it is compulsory to cook and share a hearty meal with family and friends. Roast turkey is the main course, while mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce make up the rest of the dish.
