This was part of our Jet2 package holiday, Myself and my partner are a young couple in our 20s. The transfer to the hotel was quite sketchy, the island itself is severely run down and definitely not the best for holiday makers these days who enjoy scenic beauties and a nice walk around- you’re lucky to not get robbed if you try and have a gander around the Ixian area. Myself and my partner are hikers back in Uk so we can appreciate a scenic route/trail/roads however this isn’t the case here and looks like you’re taking a trip around Sparkbrook/Alum rock in Birmingham! We arrived at the Ixian Grand Hotel at 11pm, checked in with the manager George at reception which was quick and easy, there were mentions of an upgrade but we assumed they meant we had paid for the upgrade ourselves (we paid for the private roof top pool suite). However we got to our room and were given room 413 which was a basement room with a ground floor pool suite, soon realised this was not what we had paid for. We went back to the front desk and spoke to George stating we had paid for the private roof top pool, which he stated we had been upgraded to the larger basement room suite. We advised we had paid for the private roof top pool suite anyways, which was more expensive, and he advised to return the next morning to rectify and give us the room we paid for. We went back 8am the next morning and the staff stated we had to wait for a room to become available so around 1230/1300hrs we could move into the room which was 406. This issue was rectified and didn’t really fuss about this any further, the private pool was 100% worth it if you enjoy your own company and the views from the roof are amazing as well as sunbathing the sun is always on you! The food - definitely not 5 star rating at all. Breakfast in the main restaurant - buffet style with fruits, salad, breads, ham, cheese, turkey slices, pancakes/crepes with Nutella, sausage (fake tasteless rubbery stuff), bacon (fake tasteless rubber), beans (watery and tasteless), but the bread was amazing and fresh! In the main restaurant Each night is said to be different cultured foods such as Rhodian, BBQ, International, Fish and Italian. However - the food was the exact same each night offering pizza (just with different topping such as chicken/ cheese/ bacon/ mushroom), tomato pasta, pasta with mince bolognese, lobster/prawns, chips (large skin on chips which weren’t cooked enough and were raw a lot of the time with no taste) , calamari, grilled chicken (no seasoning or flavour just plain), cheese and ham quiche, bread and selects of salad / sandwich toppings like ham / turkey slices. The only thing myself and my partners plate consisted of each night was carbs and tasteless chicken. For suite stayers, we have the Alazonia restaurant which is exclusive to suites from rooms 400-430. This has a set breakfast menu or a buffet style breakfast with the same meats, beans and bread the main restaurant has to offer plus croissants and pan au chocolates. The main menu is from 1830hrs here and it’s a set menu with starter, main and dessert with different set menus each night to choose from but they are boujee and not for the weak tastebuds. However there are quite a few nicer options from this set menu than in the main restaurant and actually offer food from a 5-star standard! The bar staff were great, as well as the entirety of the staff in all honesty all welcoming with smiles on their faces and they can’t do enough for you! Really helpful when you need help and want to ask Qs about Rhodes town or little day trips out which you can book via a QR code at the desk which was helpful however the Rhodes town was sooooo disappointing, the island as an entirety is run down and everywhere is abandoned you have nowhere that serves real Greek food that’s actually to a nice standard, considering you’re in Greece! Theres a small snack bar located by the main pool area which is by the reception, this snack bar offers minced burger with pulled chicken or pork on a pita bread with burger sauce - the most Greek we got the entire holiday! They also offer Pizzas, cakes, cheese pies or sausage rolls (not the nicest I’ll admit but for a snack they’ll do) and ice cream for when the restaurants are not open and you fancy a little something after being in the pool. The beach is a stone beach so watch your feet and if you have dry feet then this is the place to exfoliate them by walking on the rocky beach. Beautiful views however and you can watch the planes come in and out from the beach throughout the day. Checkout - our flight home was scheduled for 2215hrs and the transfer was due to pick us up at 1930 hours, we went to the receptionist with this and enquired about a later checkout (rather than 11am) a couple days before we were due to fly home. They said they would have a look and to return the day before to confirm whether we could have a later checkout - to our surprise they actually offered a 6pm checkout for us! And we still had access to bars, pools, restaurants etc as we did normally which was great and really appreciated this! Overall an amazing hotel itself and the staff are great but the food does not live up to the 5 star standard I’d expect more from an air bnb considering we paid over 2500 for this holiday.
