After staying at the Taj residences in Dehli, Mumbai and Chennai during the last couple of years, we were expecting high standards from this stay. While we thoroughly enjoyed the setting and facilities at the Exotica, we were really disappointed by the lack of care taken regarding our allergy requirements and the response we were met with given several near misses. My partner has a severe nut and sesame allergy, which was made clear on the initial booking and to all staff at the hotel (host, reception and all restaurant staff). On arrival to our room we had a welcome treat containing nuts. We were told this would be replaced with a nut free alternative but it never arrived. Our first evening at the restaurant was a disappointing and concerning experience. After reminding waiting staff and the manager of the allergies, they brought out a dish containing visible sesame seeds. Luckily we spotted the sesame and raised it to staff, who took the dish away and came back, stating it was actually garlic. After requesting to speak to the manager, he admitted it was in fact sesame. Despite the head chef returning the dish without the side salad and the restaurant eventually admitting their mistake, there was no apology or awareness of the seriousness. On our second day we were then served bread with sesame, again after reminded staff of the allergies. This experience really soured our special holiday after going in with high expectations from the Taj hotel chain and will make us think again before booking with Taj hotels again.
