Had an amazing week at Susesi, not 100% perfect, but nothing is, but more on the faults later... Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the reception staff who sat us in a beautiful reception lounge, we were offered drinks and treated like royalty! I've never experienced this level of welcome at any other hotel, the smooth check in was followed by being shown to our room and a quick overview of the facilities by the receptionist while our cases were brought to the room separately. The room itself was spacious and clean, nothing could be faulted, except for the 2 large single beds instead of a double, we put our cases away and went to the 24 hour lobby bar for a refreshing drink, when we got back to the room, the cleaning staff had been in, the receptionist must have arranged for the beds to be pushed together making a very large king size bed! The bed was very comfortable and clean, they even had a menu card for your choice of 5 different types of pillow! After a fantastic night's sleep, (no need for air-conditioning the room was the perfect temperature all week.) We went to the buffet restaurant for breakfast, we were welcomed as we entered and the choice of food was breathtaking, I'm vegetarian but had no problems finding plenty to eat. As with most Turkish hotels, there was no bacon or pork sausage for the carnivorous types, but I'm certain that there were more than enough alternatives. I noticed a small queue around a certain area and after a quick look I saw it was for freshly cooked omelette, I love a nice omelette so stood in line, the chef cooking them was amazing! How anyone could stand there every day, constantly cooking omelette and looking so happy is beyond me, I will never forget the way he said "cheese?" with a cheeky grin and "Bon Appetit" as he delivered the perfect omelette! "The Happy Omelette Guy" is a real credit to Susesi! The staff in the restaurant are very attentive, bringing water and taking orders for drinks as soon as you sit down... Tablecloths are changed after each sitting and the place is spotless. The Hotel is beautiful, maybe slightly outdated décor, but that doesn’t detract from the feel of luxury, everywhere is clean and clutter free. Because of the size of the hotel, there are so many ways to get lost, but there are plenty of signs to help out. Outside the layout seems to have evolved rather than designed, a walk to the beach involves quite a few turns and bridges, I would have preferred a central pathway, but once you get used to the layout, it’s not too difficult to find your way around. There are plenty of bars and food opportunities all around the complex, Salad bars, Burgers, Pizza, Kebabs and my personal favourite, Gozleme! Having a drink in each bar on the way to the beach would be a challenge. There are all of the usual facilities, on site shops (with extortionate prices), Spa, Gym, Bowling, Amusements etc, they also have a kids and teenager area which looks to be well equipped. The majority of pools are the same depth, which is a little too deep for non-swimmers and young kids, although there is a very shallow paddling area primarily aimed at toddlers and younger kids, ideally there should be a 1 metre pool for the older kids and non-swimmers. On our second day we visited the Spa, the usual free and heavily promoted VIP section that you get in most Turkish hotels, the free section was beautiful, my wife had always wanted a massage and booked the top package, quite expensive at around 100 euro, but she said it was well worth the money, while she was being pampered, I visited the fitness centre, the equipment was all top of the range, clean and all working perfectly, next to this was the Protein bar which serves delicious healthy squeezed fruit juices, next to this healthy section is the patisserie which serves the most enjoyable range of high calorie, but delicious cakes and pastries, all accompanied by a range of ice creams! The evening entertainment was of a high standard, if a little repetitive, all of the shows were largely dance acrobatic variations on a theme, it would have been nice to have a singer or maybe a variety act? A FEW BAD POINTS: Sadly, because the towels are freely available, most of the sunbeds are reserved early and not used most of the day, we sat next to one around 10:00am and no one came until mid-afternoon. This practice should be stopped, we were here at the Low season, I can only imagine what it would be like mid-summer! WiFi was sketchy in places, often I would connect without Internet, other places there was no signal at all, strangely the best coverage was on the beach! The Shops were very overpriced, we paid 5 euro for a basic pack of playing cards! The pools were A little deep for non swimmers At one bar (by the entertainment stage), I stood alone waiting patiently for a drink but being ignored by the girl behind the bar, another staff member arrived and said something to her, she begrudgingly took our order, then she turned to another girl who had just walked in and told her to serve us, I guess it was the end of her shift, but that's no excuse for attitude. To Sum up.. The holiday was fantastic overall and I must praise everyone at Susesi for the incredible service they gave, in particular, I mentioned in passing during our introduction that we would book our A la Carte meal for the Wednesday because it was my birthday, when we got to the meal we were shown to a table covered in rose petals, I never suspected anything until after the beautiful meal when the staff came out with a beautiful birthday cake with candles and a bottle of champagne singing Happy Birthday! I thought my wife had planned it all but she assured me that she hadn’t said anything, it was all down to the amazing customer service team. This is certainly one holiday I will never forget! Thank you to Everyone at Susesi, you are all stars!
