We have stayed at other Rixos hotels in the past (Sungate and Beldibi) and this experience was not as good. The entertainment was not so good and the main restaurant was so busy and chaotic. Food choices for a vegetarian were limited. Bar staff were excellent and really hard working as they did not stop and more staff were definitely needed. They really tried hard, but looked tired and seemed to work non-stop. Housekeeping staff were also very friendly and efficient. The grounds were really well looked after and the resort was very clean and tidy. If you have any sort of food allergy or intolerance, I would not recommend this hotel. One of my children has a severe nut allergy and we highlighted this on our a la carte restaurant reservations and also to our guest relations host on the WhatsApp system and again when we were greeted by the host in the Grill Lamb restaurant, so three times in all prior to our meal. My daughter was then given a salad with walnuts and after ten minutes the host we had told about the nut allergy came running to our table to warn us there were nuts in the salad. Luckily we check everything carefully and we had noticed before our daughter ate this, otherwise we could have had a serious anaphylactic reaction. Following this we then booked at the a la carte restaurant again the next week and made sure to speak with guest relations to inform them of the problem at the last meal and to ensure this did not happen again. They reassured us it was a mistake and would not happen again. Again we mentioned it on the booking system and to the restaurant host on arrival and again my daughter was given a dish with walnuts which she has a severe allergy to. We are not ones to complain and understand perhaps a mistake can happen once, but the same mistake twice at the same restaurant is unforgivable and could have had catastrophic results. Staff must be trained in the seriousness of food allergies and understand how important it is to recognise this. We also went to the patisserie and asked if a particular cake had nuts in due to allergy and were told it’s ok, it’s only a little. Even a tiny amount of nuts can be fatal if you have a severe allergy. Nothing is properly labelled with allergens and staff just don’t seem to understand or have any training in this. For a 5 star hotel chain like Rixos, this is quite shocking and I hope they address this following our feedback. On a positive note, they did provide balloons, wine and a chocolate cake for one of our birthdays which was a nice touch. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this hotel.
