Changes your mind on what a luxury destination should feel like. The resort was a true hidden jewel in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
I will start of with the only flaw that I can think of: the travel time. Taking a seaplane flight from Male to the resort takes longer compared to other resorts of its caliber but it is absolutely worth it. While flying over the Maldivian Archipelago, you can see the slowly shifting difference of the overly developed islands fade into the untouched pristine nature that most of the archipelago was 20-30 years ago. The resort lies on one of these islands. As such, its surrounding waters are near immaculate, with little to no signs of ocean pollution that have become more common in the islands nearer to Male.
As for the stay itself, as I’ve previously mentioned, nothing comes quite close to it. The accommodations (I stayed on both: beach and overwater) are spacious and tastefully decorated. Any and all necessities and amenities are already prepared, no need to call the front desk as they’ve fully anticipated all your needs. The beach and the waters near my villa were picturesque perfect, no sign of any pollution that I can remember.
The food was one of the highlights of the trip. The breakfast was abundant and had a wide selection allowing me to feast on what I felt eating every morning. Both bars are all located in scenic/instagramable locations. And their Japanese-Peruvian restaurant, Yuzu, serves some of the best sushi I’ve ever had.
I’d also like to mention Nattu, who was my butler at my stay. He was very easy and outgoing but was also ready at any given moment. He anticipated all my needs and was always happy to help and serve. His advice on which activities were worthwhile were spot on.
I’d also like to mention their resident Marine Biologist Emilia, who guided me through the sea fauna and flora that were located near the resort. Although I am not as well versed as her, I was able to identify several nemos and dorries just a few dozen meters offshore. She was more than happy to guide me through each of their kind, as well as introducing me to some young turtles who call the resort’s island home.
I look forward to my next trip in the Maldives, where I’ll definitely be staying the Raffles once again.
