If you're considering whether it's worth making the trek to the Pullman, it's worth it! We traveled with two young children (and another on the way) and had travel setback after setback along the way. We finally arrived almost 12 hours later than anticipated after dark. If you arrive after dark, you will be met with a warm welcome, but will not know how spectacular this place is until you see it in the morning light! Some comments: -Lodging: We stayed for 10 nights. 5 in an over ocean villa with a pool, and five in a beach villa. Our ocean villa faced east and our beach villa faced west. It was a great variety having some days for sunrises and some days for sunsets. Both rooms have spectacular layouts and outdoor living. Though we loved the ocean villa, one thing to note is if you have young children, you will have to be vigilant in watching them as there are no railings--neither on the outdoor living decks going over the water, nor the walkways leading to the rooms. This makes for spectacular uninhibited views of the pristine setting--something I hope the resort never changes. Our beach villa didn't have the views, but had lush green vegetation providing a private jungle setting and a short walk to to the beach. It's worth mentioning that you have twice-daily replenish nespresso, beer/wine, spirits, soft drinks, and various snacks and chocolates. It is the best mini-bar variety (and deal--included!) I could ever imagine. Setting: This place is truly a paradise. The island is the perfect size--not too big, not too small. You get to know it well by the end of your stay but it remains intriguing throughout. You have ocean and you have lush vegetation inland. Walking from one place to another is a treat, though there are always golf carts you can hop on for a ride if the weather takes a turn for the worst (it likely will at some point). Activities: There are numerous activities offered by the resort. I'd recommend sunset fishing (you can still see dolphins while out) and snorkeling on the house reef. The things you'll see are amazing. There's also a turtle snorkeling expedition during which you'll see countless turtles but also a huge number of sharks (we saw five different species). IMPORTANT: The house reef is a walk from the beach but it would be foolish not to go out and snorkel here. It is some of the best snorkeling I've ever experienced in my life and you can do so on your own. So few people seem to be snorkeling here and I think people aren't aware of how good it is (perhaps that's why the reef is so vibrant!). One thing that isn't advertised but I learned and appreciated is that if you don't want to go out alone, you can hire a guide from the dive shop to take you or another person on a private snorkeling tour on the house reef (which is much closer than the excursion which is farther away from the property). I did this because I was with my four year old son and didn't want to be way out there alone with him. You will see sharks--most likely blacktips--and the way they move is mesmerizing. We saw green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, octopus, eagle rays, sting eays, mobula rays, among countless other things! We met a couple who had been to 7 different resorts on 7 different islands all throughout the Maldives, and they said the marine life off the Pullman was the best of all the places they had stayed. If you like massage, please do yourself a favor and book with Rahul. There's a great children's playground/pool/slide and activity center as well. Food: The food (and associated service and attention to detail) quality and variety is excellent. Executive Chef Nyoman runs an incredible program. I highly recommend making an effort (including reservations) early in your stay to try all of the restaurants for all of their respective meal periods. Why? Not only is there such great variety, but you will learn which places are your favorite and be able to enjoy your trip even more. For example, Phat Chameleon (vegeterian-only) shocked my carnivorous family. The caliber of that restaurant/food left some of us admitting we could convert to vegetarianism if every meal was like this. We loved Souq Oven for its views, a la carte menu, upscale environment, and less bustling setting right near our ocean villa. Chef Raohul took a personal interest in knowing what I liked and even brought me a braised rabbit dish that wouldn't hit the menu until after our departure date. Perhaps the biggest surprise on the food front was the quality and variety of the buffet. Chef Subrata and his team have done an exceptional job of curating a spectacular buffet (ranging from Italian, Korean/Chinese/Japanese, Indian, Maldivian, and grilled meats and local seafood. What's even more special is that he pays attention to what everyone likes and will sometimes bring something special (plated by him) to the table. I never could have imagined a buffet where the food was so good and the staff played such an active role to ensure the enjoyment of their guests. My son's highlight of the trip was when Subrata presented him with the grilled white snapper my son had caught himself the night before. I would be remiss to mention Executive Pastry Chef Asanka. He is so exceptionally kind and and the most incredible artist--the art he can create with food I never thought possible. The staff: It sounds trite and cheesy to say "the people make the difference", but here it's actually true. There are quite possibly more staff here than guests (many behind the scenes) that work incredibly hard to ensure that a visit to the Pullman Maldives becomes a top vacation experience for all travelers. Some staff I'd like to mention (in addition to those mentioned above) are: Jiv, who made Souq Oven an exceptional experience with her kindness and helpful service orientation; Eveline at Souq Oven, for her smile, sense of humor, and outstanding cocktails; Ahmed at Souq Oven for his hospitality; Nisha at Melange who always took care of us (despite a crowded restaurant) with a smile and a calm and professional style; Ashraf and Shamoon for their diligent and thorough housekeeping; Faisal for his friendly service at Melange; and again, Chef Subrata for making the buffet a standout and becoming a celebrity in my son's mind! Thank you Nichula for ensuring a specatcular stay. And thank you to Sabat for arranging day accomodation for my two kids and pregant wife the day of our departure. We cannot wait to return. And when we do, we hope we see all the same familiar faces at this spectacular resort!
