First off, it's not a Mitsis hotel. It changed hands in Feb 24. It is not adults only. They now allow children. Even though there are no facilities for children. Now onto the review. At first entry we were met by a sour faced receptionist who was very rude. This is sold as a 5* resort but everyone we spoke to said it is not worthy of more than 3.5*. We received a talk about times and towels but did not receive anything on paper. Beach towels take a 10 euro deposit each. Being a '5* resort' it calls for a tourist tax of 10 euro per night per room. Do you remember about 15 years ago when you got a key for your room? Well, this 5* resort still does that. We were shown to our room, a Deluxe, side sea view room. It has a both with shower over, a slippery, narrow bath. A very large double bed was very comfortable with pillows like clouds, so soft! The safe in the room has no instructions and the air conditioning would not work. Reception were informed straight away but after 7 days nothing was done for us until a complaint was made to the travel agent. We moved into a smaller room that had a small er bed and smaller wardrobes and a shower in a box room instead of the roomy bathroom we had previously but the a/c works. No compensation was offered for the loss of facilities and smaller room. In fact the new room just about had a sea view if you lean over the balcony. The room has a sliding patio door and, we found out by mistake that there is a blackout screen within the door frame. A kettle is supplied, as is a coffee machine but the cleaners do not replenish the supplies. The TV is great as long as you like sky news, coz that's the only English programme. Take a firestick, the WiFi is free! Moving on, the resort is crumbling into disrepair. Several of the clockwork walls were cracked and falling apart as were several tiles around the pool area. Stairways have no handrails, there are no signs pointing the way to toilets, bars, restaurants, beaches etc. The pool itself is very nice as is the beach area and the views are amazing. However, the sunbeds are in a bad condition with a bed graveyard building up. Some have been repaired by the chief bodger but the repairs leave sharp edges to cut your leg on. The pool bar serves up the usual local drinks and beer along with a lunchtime buffet, the same thing every day plus burgers one day, wraps another day and pizza another. The beach has straw umbrellas which are collapsing and whilst it is advertised as private, it is not. People can arrive, pay a fee to use the sunbeds and also use the pool bar and buffet, at a cost. The pool bar closes at 5:45 so for the evening drinks the Apollo bar is open with the lovely Maria in charge. I say lovely because otherwise she would have bitten my head off. Beer is the same and she is very knowledgeable about the cocktails. Unfortunately, the cola and other fizzy drinks are flat and she does nothing about it. So rum and coke etc is not good. Finally, into the restaurant. A 5* restaurant, or so we're told. The turrines that keep the food warm are not hot. There are no labels to tell what is in each but after 2 days you will know anyway. It's the same mass produced, microwaved frozen stuff every day. To say it's boring and tasteless is an understatement. And then, you can't eat out on the veranda at lunchtime. William is a great waiter who speaks several languages. One night it must have been Asian night because they had chicken and mushroom curry. Except it didn't taste of curry. The chicken appeared to be those precooked frozen breast slices that you buy at a cheap supermarket. Lastly, breakfast. Fried eggs were good. Bacon was like processed meat. Sausages, nah! Beans were good. Mushrooms were sliced frozen and tasteless. And toast.....it has to go through the machine at least 5 times just to get a brown colour. So, what is the final outcome of our visit? 1.How were the staff? Mainly they were very nice and trying hard. Understaffed by about 30%. 2. How clean was the hotel? It did look clean but very worn. 3. How were the facilities? Rooms left a lot to be desired with no a/c and floods in some. No replacement tea, coffee etc. 4. How did we sleep? Very well, a comfy bed and a good blackout screen once we'd found it. 5. How was breakfast/lunch/dinner? Not good. Cold, samey, cheap. Not 5*. 6. Was it in a good location? Yes, the location and bay are beautiful. It is a fair walk into town. But worth it. Or, get a taxi. 7. Was it good value for what charged? No. Bad food, disappointing drinks (flat cola). No a/c. This hotel needs money spending to bring it up to a 5* standard and at the moment it is only worthy of 3*.
