Official Description

This beachfront eco-chic bohemian hotel places its guests just meters away from the sandy strip and is the perfect place for a sun-soaked vacation in heart of Playa del Carmen since 1985. Its guests can reach the center of the resort, the restaurants, bars, pubs, shopping outlets and the tourist sites on La Quinta Avenida within a 05-minute walk. The concept of the venue is to provide the perfect conditions for relaxing and romance, so there are no TVs, phones or radios in the rooms. But to compensate for that there are large comfortable beds and private terraces with hammocks, where one can spend the warm afternoons with a good book in hand and a chilled cocktail by his side. If some extra pampering is needed the onsite spa center can provide a number of treatments and massages, which will surely nourish both the body and the mind. WiFi access is provided in the lobby, each guest´s room and the conference place. The property is part of Top 20 Travel & Leisure 2021 and Condenast Travel 2021. LGBT+ friendly and Small dogs/cats allowed on request with extra charge. Excellent place for groups and weddings. Very good facilities, it would be great with warmer water temperature in the private plunge pools.

Everything was above average except the private plunge pool. The water was cold and it seems a shame to have a private plunge pool and not be able to enjoy it because the water is too cold. Also the finishes in the plunge pools could be better and more refined. Overall they should be refurbished and heated to 32 - 33 degrees.

Beach Front Tropical Paradise

This is our 3rd time at the resort. Love the jungle-like premises and bungalows. The grounds are very natural for a resort in the center of a town. This is not a high-rise hotel where you wake to the sound of leaf blowers. However, you will more than likely hear the music from beach clubs down the way at night. Mahekal provides earplugs for that reason and they worked great! SERVICE- We were absolutely thrilled to see our favorite server was still at the resort. SOPHIA Is outstanding at her job and looked after us every morning and afternoon for lunch. We didn't have to ask for anything! SPA- Our dive tour was canceled because of winds so we enjoyed a day in the hotel spa. Again, a wonderful and relaxing experience. WEDDING- We will be back again in February 26 for my daughter's wedding. I have been working with resort's wedding planner Laura. She has made this planning process easy and we cant wait for the final results!

Stayed at Mahekal for a girl’s trip and loved it! The property is beautiful, right on the beach off a cute avenue full of restaurants. Everyone working at the resort was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Josue, who led the activities! We had a great time during his water dancing class!

The food service staff at the resort was absolutely fantastic. Sofia, Marcos, and Ismael stood out for their attentiveness, kindness, and professionalism. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and made each meal a pleasure. The resort itself was very family-friendly, offering a welcoming atmosphere, kid-friendly amenities, and activities that kept everyone entertained. It was the perfect place for a relaxing and enjoyable family getaway. Highly recommended!

Our hotel is located beachfront on the Caribbean with a wonderful white sand beach on the outskirts of Playa del Carmen, just a few steps away from the 5th Avenue. We count 195 oversized and comfortable resort style hotel rooms providing vacation accommodations and hotel lodging.
