My husband and I returned 2 days ago from the most amazing vacation in paradise. I have so much to say about this beautiful, lush island and its amazing people. We were at Ladera Resort to celebrate my birthday on 3/14. Arrival Although we had rented a vehicle, we chose to take the transfers to the resort in order to get a feel of the roads and the driving experience. The steering wheel is on the right side and they drive on the left side of the road. The drive to the resort takes approximately 40 mins. The moment we arrived at the resort we were welcomed with a smile, and a rum punch. Our check in took only a few minutes, as we were the only ones checking in at that time. Room/Gros Piton Suite (K)/Heritage suite (C) We had room K (first 4 days,) which I was extremely happy we got. From my extensive reviews prior to going, I read that some of the Gros Piton suites were one level, and the reviews mentioned that you cannot really see the pitons from the bed. In our suite the bedroom and bathroom was upstairs, so you got a full AMAZING view of the pitons from your bed every morning. The suite had everything you needed to add to your comfort. The bed does have a mosquito net around it, however, although March is not considered a rainy month you may get an increase in mosquitoes after some rain. They do provide Deet free mosquito repellent and at turn down service mosquito coils are lit by housekeeping. We walked with our own mosquito spray, so that does help. Housekeeping cleaned our room daily, and they do a marvelous job of keeping things tidy and clean, both in the mornings and at turn down service. They keep the trash emptied daily, fresh linens and towels always. The small refrigerator is stocked daily with complimentary water, and soda. If there is any special request, they will accommodate you. You also have a mobile phone and a tablet in your suite. So if you don’t have a suite with a personal butler you can still call or message the reception for anything you need. You can make bookings for excursions, spa, room service, maintenance, etc. from the tablet. Yes they thought of everything! You can take the mobile phone with you when you leave the resort, if at any time you need to reach the reception area. On the final 3 days of our stay we were in the Heritage suite, room C, which is very close to the restaurant and across from the reception area. This suite had a large pool, so that was an added bonus. The entire suite was much larger and the views remained spectacular. That suite came with a butler, however we did not utilize that service very much, as we preferred to leave and explore daily. Resort Staff The service provided by the staff is exceptional. The ladies at the reception area are so pleasant, always smiling, addressing you by name(which is an added touch) and giving your requests prompt attention. Ms. Caroline (Concierge), Ms. Yvette (Manager), Ms. Swithvie (who welcomed us) Ms. Ariela, and Ms. Sherin. These ladies were exceptional and must be recognized. They truly made our stay remarkable and unforgettable. All of our questions were met with such professionalism. On my birthday my bed was decorated and for that I was very surprised and so thankful. I also received chocolate covered fruits on that day. Our room also came with a bottle of champagne on arrival, which we used to celebrated with on our last night. Their undivided attention to your wishes, made us feel so special. Davi took such great care of our needs regarding the pool. His attention to our wishes was always with a smile, and added suggestions of how he can make things more comfortable for us, such as adjusting the temperature and turning off the fountain in the pool, so as not to disturb us at night. (a request of my husband) Thank you Davi, your (sweet) smile and pleasant demeanor is infectious. Dasheene Restaurant During our stay we ate dinner there 3xs, lunch once, breakfast every morning and we also did the Thursday night fish fry. It was all amazing and very tasty. However, let me rave about breakfast. OMG amazing, not to mention the incredible views. Everything we ate at breakfast was just so delicious. Please try the saltfish and bake bread, their smoothies, the grilled tomatoes and mushrooms. Absolutely no complaints. There is also a different band that plays every night from around 7pm until about 10 pm, and they are all great bands. You can sit in the lounge area order drinks and small plates while listening and enjoying the band. Finally, there are so many things to enjoy here at Ladera. Honestly 6 nights was just not long enough. Walking the trails, the hot tub bowls, the game room, so many extras, and not enough time. I did take advantage of the spa, and opted for the St. Lucian scrub/massage. I was just amazed. Do not hesitate to book this wonderful property. The grounds are so lush and well maintained. Everyone, yes everyone is so attentive to your needs, and it's done with a genuine smile. Thank you Ladera, we did not want to leave! I will definitely return. Things to consider. There are a couple things I would like to mention, as during my research about St. Lucia, I did not see this mentioned anywhere. If you are planning on taking cash, please make sure it is not ripped. Even a small tear. The stores DO NOT accept torn bills, and you would not want to give it as a tip, because they won’t be able to use it. We were able to stop at a bank on our way to the resort and get EC dollars. If you plan on renting a car, I read where you needed to obtain a driving permit from the rental car company which was about $20. However, we had an International driver permit which we got here in the US from AAA for $20, and it’s valid for 1 year. It was accepted by SIXT car rental service, with no issues. Driving in St. Lucia is not for the inexperienced driver. Be aware that the roads are extremely windy, huge potholes in some areas, extremely narrow roads, and lots of uphill and downhill driving. My husband did all of the driving and he was ok with it, I was a nervous reck…lol
