We must have got this place on a bad week, as I am keen user of Tripadvisor and if you check out my reviews, it's rare for me to be so underwhelmed. In fact I wasn't going to leave a review, as I felt we must have missed something, however I was emailed by Kymothoe Elite this morning, asking me to leave feedback on my favourite social media platform, so here I am. Likewise I wasn't going to mention anything to Nicos the owner either and just vote with my feet, as we really like Zakynthos and so I would just stay next door in the luxury 5* hotel which ironically cheaper than here (had we just waited a few days more for them to open). In advance, all the reviews were amazing. The site details also looked good too. The prices were reassuringly quite expensive for a 4 star apart-hotel, so again I suspected this would be better than the average set up. Unfortunately our experience didn't match our expectations. The Wi-Fi is very poor (frustratingly so), arguably not their fault. What they could improve is the "a la carte"breakfast menu, which we found to be more a euphemism for "we aren't too busy, so instead of serving. buffet breakfast with a plethora of choices......we'll serve a parsimonious arrangement served cold, on cold plates, with cold barely toasted toast". Furthermore with the staff appearing disengaged and even forgetting what you ordered and then struggling to get much service. In fact, we felt like we were imposing on their day, which by all accounts I think we were, as whenever Nicos the owner was not around, they sat around chatting and not doing a huge amount of work. They could have spent their time doing a better job cleaning, as the outdoor furniture was all grubby, as were the cushions. It was difficult to find pool towels and they were never offered. In fact the pool area for indoor seating/bar was locked up most of the time and there were no staff to offer anything. In terms of the rooms, there were empty small toiletry bottles and soap sat on top of the shower unit when we arrived....and they were still there when we left. Perhaps from last years guests? We only attempted to use the oven once, as we opened the oven door and it had clearly been used some time ago and had drips and fat etc. all over and emitting that horrible greasy stale smell of forgotten about and uncleaned ovens. It was like we had arrived for a holiday and someone forgot to tell the site they had guests coming to stay! As I say, this is the start of their season and I just didn't feel they were bothered, or had prepared for guests. They charged a premium for a poor service. I wasn't going to tell Nicos, as that is a bit like telling someone that their baby is ugly and we would have still had to put up with the complacent staff and grubby areas (and added animosity for our stay). I suspect they will blame the Sahara dust for the grubbiness, however I'm not too sure that would stop you cutting your grass, or putting away the cushions on the outdoor furniture of an evening to stop them getting soaked and then soaking your clothes the next day when you sat on them. I could go on, but there is no point as I hope they sort themselves out and offer a better standard of service than we received and one that is more akin to pretty much everyone else's reviews.
