We decided to return to Kuredu after 30 years, last visited when we were in our twenties before the children came along. It is still an amazingly beautiful island. We walked around the island twice a day (45minutes) and can see how they have had to put up sea defences to prevent erosion which is a constant battle. There are more rooms on the island (350) now and we stayed in one of the premium beach bungalows. All the rooms are pretty basic, outdoor bathroom. We went into the Bonthi restaurant in the middle of the island for food. Food was amazing, plenty of choice and different themed evenings. We did not bother with the extremely expensive a la Carte restaurants or the beach barbecues that they were desperate to get us to attend. It would be nice if they offered a free a la Carte meal once a week as most hotels do in other places we have travelled. As with other reviews, the staff are extremely friendly and always say hello. Their customer service is exceptional and they are happy, obviously an extremely well trained team. I was sad to hear that they do not get paid very well, approximately 2-300 dollars a month so we gave generous tips to our waiter Amanth and also to our room guy Ajitkumar. Both were amazing and made our stay extremely pleasurable. We were quoted 111 dollars per person per night to upgrade to all inclusive. We did not think we could consume 2600 dollars worth of alcohol in 12 days so declined this option and were just full board. We had drinks at lunch and dinner, had a few every evening from the mini bar and had one snorkelling trip, we spent 850 dollars. Everything is expensive so why they only pay their staff a pittance seems extremely greedy (although I appreciate they have to import most things except fish!). 80 dollars for a 3 hour snorkel trip, 40dollars for an hour tennis/paddleball. 20 dollars to hire rackets for an hour! Literally they want every last dollar from you for everything. When we went 30 years ago everything was free, all the trips all part of the overall Kuredu experience. Alas no longer. The gold course isn’t great if you are looking to play. It’s ok for a bit of fun but it’s a pitch and putt with Astro turf greens. The driving range you can only use a 6 iron or less otherwise you will hit people at the O beach the other side. We enjoyed our 12 nights on this island paradise, such beautiful views, crystal clear water and the sand bank was amazing stretching out far into the sea. The house reef is a bit of a swim out from the beach so only stronger swimmers would take advantage of the excellent snorkelling the jetty side of the island. The other side of the island was quite shallow for some distance but on the less windy days I was swimming with turtles and reefsharks where I could actually stand up. We will be going to the Maldives again but not back to Kuredu. I would prefer an island where the house reef is much closer such as nearby Komandoo (I went here on my snorlkel trip and it was amazing, snorkelling on the house reef close to the shore an unforgettable experience). If you are thinking of going to Kuredu DO NOT get an early return flight home from Male. Our flight was at 0905, Kuredu an hour behind Male but the first sea plane out is at 0700. Due to a storm the night before the sea plane departures were delayed. We were placed on the 3rd sea plane out of Kuredu that morning and passengers with later flight times than ours were on the earlier sea plane departures. Consequently we missed our flight home as the gate had closed 5 minutes before we got there. The Kuredu staff that morning were disorganised and it was very chaotic, no leadership, no communication regarding the sea plane departures. Cost us £2400 to get a one way flight back to Heathrow (via Virgin original flight was with Emirates who could not care less). Make sure your holiday insurance covers you at least £2500 for missed departure. Not a great experience to end the holiday. In fact Male airport is a bit of a nightmare, no air conditioning, chaotic, busy etc. They are building a new terminal there which it so desperately needs. Thank you to all the Kuredu staff who made our holiday very enjoyable, customer service there was exceptional. I think the management need to address their pricing, the all inclusive packages and their diabolical organisation of the sea plane departures.
