We had such a lovely week. We came as three families and had 6 rooms booked. We were all upgraded to bay view rooms, which were lovely. I’m assuming we were upgraded because the standard rooms were all full. Everyone on reception very helpful and pleasant. Rooms very good and had all you needed, including a kettle. Our bathroom had a walk in shower, although our sons’ bedroom next door had a shower over the bath. Housekeeping extremely good and always had a smile and a ‘hello’ in the mornings. We were left a complimentary bottle of red wine in our room, which I exchanged for a bottle of white at reception. Also left a big bottle of water in our room every day. There was a fridge in room where we kept the water and milk. We were bed and breakfast, so had a very good breakfast every morning. You can either sit inside upstairs, which was air conditioned, no real views to speak of, or outside with a much smaller menu. I found it too hot outside, even in the shade, and lots of wasps. We sat on the beach every day, although youngsters went up to the pool a few times a day. Always got sunbeds ok. There was evening entertainment on every night, either in the main bar or at the beach bar, or both. Be sure to look at the daily board in reception for this, as I didn’t realise it was there until day 3!, so missed a few things. Had a few lunches at Natalie’s along the beach, which was very good, and we also had an early dinner there on our last evening. We went out for dinner every night and would recommend all really. Our favourite was Telesilla, which we went to twice. A little more expensive than others, but definately worth it. Very slick operation, food very good and great staff. We also went to Olympia Mare which was the furthest we walked about 25 mins. Lovely setting and good food. Harry’s Taverna very good. Kepkypa, which was the nearest to the hotel, about 10 minute flat walk. This was a traditional family run place and would highly recommend also. We also went to Fish Taverna Roula, which you could see from our balcony window. We all really liked and staff very pleasant. There was a small shop just up the road before you reached the main road, where we bought big bottles of water, a bottle of milk for our tea, and we usually stopped on way back from dinner with the kids to have our ‘pudding’ of an ice cream each from the sliding top cabinet. We went into Corfu town one evening which I would recommend. Lovely architecture and good shops. We booked taxis via reception and very reasonable and efficient. We also booked taxis via reception to and from airport. I did try and use Uber a few times, but don’t think many Uber drivers around as never picked up on our trips. We did a tour to an olive oil factory, just the adults, which was very good and I did learn a lot. Kids did the nearby water park too which they said was fab. We also did a boat trip for the day which we arranged through reception, and that was great fun. Stopped off at some fab beaches and had a cooked bar b q lunch on board. So, would highly recommend the hotel. You can get around quite easily. There is a lift that goes from the reception floor down to the beach. If any of you have watched the Durrells, the house they used for filming is next door to this hotel. An absolutely beautiful villa. Thankyou to all involved who made our holiday so lovely 😊

Heaven in Corfu!

Kontokali is the perfect holiday destination in every way! I rarely return to hotels but this year will be my fourth visit. The staff could not be more helpful and kind (Vasiliki's service was a highlight of lunches by the sea!), the private beach is spacious and clean, with fantastic service ... I could go on! A wonderfully run hotel.

Wonderful place!

We stayed for the last week of the season and so the place was quiet but the staff were equally attentive. From the moment we arrived it felt very luxurious. The rooms are spacious and clean with nice toiletries and nice finishing touches such as a bag to take to the beach. There were tea and coffee facilities and a bottle of wine to welcome you as well as a frre 1L bottle of water every day. There were two beaches one smaller than the other but both had easy slopes down to the water and lots of sunbeds with brollies . Beach towels were also provided .An excellent range of beach activities were available.I loved the fact that you could press a bell and somebody would come and take your beach food and drink order. Our waitress was called Marianna and she was absolutely delightful and very accommodating helping us with our orders. The food in the restaurant had an absolutely amazing selection from which we could choose as much or as little as we wanted. This was for breakfast and for the evening meal. There were cold and hot dishes and freshly prepared dishes available. Every evening there were new dishes to try all cooked to a really high standard. The beach bar and the main bar foods are also very reasonable and of a good standard. Every evening there was some entertainment from about 9 o’clock either down in the beach bar or in the main hotel bar. The spa was a separate building and you could book a range of different treatments. The gym was open 24 /7 and the indoor pool had a lovely setting with sunbeds inside and outside. The steam room and sauna are also free for use. The only down point was that you couldn’t walk along the beach or around the bay because the hotel is slightly isolated. You could walk to the marina however on the main road. Local transport was every half into Corfu town and the hotel also provided a courtesy bus, to takeyou to Corfu town.

Our stay at the hotel was truly enjoyable. The suite with the heated pool was a good call in October, and we spent countless hours relaxing in it. The hotel's daily cleaning service and towel replacement ensured a comfortable stay. The hotel's restaurants offered a diverse selection of food options, catering to various tastes. The quality of the food was good, and the service was attentive.

A good hotel in a lovely setting

Stayed here for a week in October in a garden view room with pool. There are some poorly written and factually inaccurate reviews on this page, some previous guests suggest the hotel shouldn’t be five stars without having any clue about what constitutes a five star hotel. Yes, the hotel is of a certain age and I am sure maintenance and room renovation are part of an ongoing programme. Previous reviewers also fail to note that any hotel still in business after Covid will have had difficulties – therefore money for renovation will have been affected. The crucial factor is that if you want to stay in an immaculate, modern hotel then you will pay significantly more for your holiday as Kontokali is comparatively good value compared to other five star hotels on the island. I found the garden view room with pool to be of a very good size, with fridge, a decent safe, comfortable king size bed, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, decent air con/heating system, tea tray, large bottle of water that was replaced each day. The terrace area was also a good size with patio table for private outside dining, and of course the private pool which was a good size at 14feet by 14feet. The bathroom was adequate and here some updating would be useful, I would suggest that the most urgent need for change is the hairdryer – it is not fit for purpose and should be an easy fix. After that, if the bath was replaced by a modern walk in shower this would be far better for those with mobility issues. There were a few minor problems with the room but what is important is that when I raised these with Reception – they were actioned immediately, Angeliki was hugely efficient – when the hot water stopped working, she sent two maintenance engineers over straight away. The hotel has an app where you can order food to your room or your sunbed. This worked very well and the speed in which in room dining was received was outstanding, the layout of the tray and presentation and quality of the food was excellent. A previous reviewer has slated the fries – I don’t know what they are talking about – the fries were not greasy, and they were perfectly seasoned including a light sprinkling of oregano. The app also has weather reports, information about day and evening entertainment and a booking system for the onsite restaurants. The grounds and gardens are wonderful, with many summer flowers still bursting with colour despite being October; the private beaches are great as there was plenty of space for all. The free coach from the hotel to Corfu town is useful, leaving at 9.30am and returning at 1.30pm, this gives plenty of time and if you need longer, take a taxi back or just go again the next day. On the road leading to the hotel there is a little shop selling essentials run by a friendly lady and we were able to buy fresh milk and reasonably priced wine. If you choose to walk to the local tavernas or marina then be aware of the many cracked flags and loose manhole covers. To conclude, I suggest to ignore the very negative reviews and if you demand total perfection then pay the higher prices elsewhere.
