Key Issues Faced: 1. Accessibility: The hotel had 40 steps leading in and out of the room, which was not mentioned in the listing. As someone suffering from arthritis and traveling with an autistic son, this was a severe and immediate safety hazard. 2. Health and Safety Hazards: • Mold Infestation: Upon entering the room, there was a noticeable musty odor indicating the presence of mold. Upon inspection, I discovered mold growing in several areas of the room, including around the windows, on the walls, and in the bathroom. This is particularly concerning as my daughter has asthma and mold allergies, which could have triggered severe respiratory issues, including asthma attacks. The presence of mold in a living environment is a serious health hazard, especially for individuals with respiratory conditions or weakened immune systems. • Structural Damage: The room had multiple holes in the walls, suggesting significant structural disrepair. These holes not only compromised the integrity of the room but also posed a risk for pests entering the space, further exacerbating health concerns. • Malfunctioning Sink: The sink in the bathroom did not drain properly, leading to stagnant water pooling in the basin. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for bacteria and could have led to unsanitary conditions, increasing the risk of infection for anyone using the sink. • Debris and Uncleanliness: The area surrounding our room was littered with debris, including empty beer bottles and other trash. This not only created an unsightly environment but also indicated a lack of proper maintenance and cleanliness, which is crucial for preventing pest infestations and ensuring a safe, hygienic space for guests. • Inadequate Sleeping Arrangements: The bed was placed directly on the floor, and the guest bed was nothing more than a cushion on top of a stone slab. Sleeping on such surfaces could lead to poor posture and back pain, particularly for someone like myself with arthritis. Moreover, these conditions were wholly unsuitable for my autistic son, who requires a stable and comfortable sleeping environment to maintain his routine and sense of security. 3. Inappropriate Environment: The pool was shared with nudists, and this was the only view visible from our room, because the area was so small. The guests were loud and drunk and right outside my window at 2pm in the afternoon. 4. Hotel’s Response: Upon raising these concerns, I requested a room that complied with disability standards. The hotel, however, informed me that no such accommodations were available. My request for a refund was also denied, leaving me with no option but to find alternative lodging immediately. 5. Alternative Arrangements: After two hours of failed negotiations with the hotel, and seeking assistance from Mondee, I secured a room at Del Sol in Santorini on the same day, where my family and I stayed from July 31 to August 4, 2024.
