Weather in Mauritius during the school holidays

February half-term

February is incredibly sunny and humid, making it the perfect winter destination. However, despite the sunny temperatures, February is also one of the wettest months of the year with an average of 228mm of rainfall throughout. This shouldn’t impact your experience too much, as short showers are often soon followed by glorious sunshine. Temperatures reach an average of 26°C with seven hours of sunshine each day.

Easter

Both March and April experience steady, warm temperatures; March has an average daytime temperature of 26°C whilst the daily temperature in April slightly drops to an average of 25°C. March and April receive eight hours of sunshine each day.

May half-term

May is officially within the winter season. However, with a daily average temperature of 23°C which can often increase to an impressive 30°C, May is anything but cold. The month of May experiences eight hours of sunshine per day and 101mm of rainfall that’s spread across the month.

Summer

The British summer months coincide with the Mauritian winter season bringing a drier climate and average temperature highs of 24°C. This is the perfect time to explore those jungle-clad mountains that dip into glistening bays on the volcanic island. Many visitors enjoy the breathtaking beaches and fantastic conditions for watersports.

October half term

October is one of the best times to visit Mauritius as it’s close to the approaching summer season. This means the weather is hot and particularly dry with only 50mm of rainfall throughout the month. The average daily temperature sits at a comfortable 23°C and there are eight hours of sunshine per day which increases to an impressive ten hours towards the end of the month.

Christmas and New year

The month of December is always a treat in Mauritius. It marks the start of the Mauritian summer, meaning temperatures will rise to a pleasant 30°C on average, with an increase in rainfall. Rest assured, rain showers and grey clouds turn into blue skies quickly as January and December make the hottest months of the year. With plenty of festivities on the table, you’ll find resorts and shopping centres draped in Christmas decorations.

Best hotels for Half Term & school holidays in Mauritius

Located in the heart of Flic en Flac along the West coast, La Pirogue is the perfect resort for you to whisk the kids off to during the school holidays. La Pirogue is host to the Sun Kid’s Club on site which provides a selection of fun activities for your little ones to partake in, ranging from scrapbook-making to stand-up paddleboarding and much more.

Make the most of some much-needed time to yourself while your little ones are at the kids club and make sure you either indulge in a spa treatment, use the fully equipped gym, enjoy a volleyball game down at the beach, Snorkel in the Indian Ocean or sip on one of the many signature cocktails on offer here.

If all of this isn’t tempting enough, then the fact free accommodation and meals are available for two kids under 12 and you'll also have access to the Sugar Beach Resort; this should more than seal the deal.

If you’re wanting to make it even easier for yourself, then opt for one of the all-inclusive, family friendly hotels on offer on the island. Some of our personal favourites are the Ravenala on the North coast and the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort on the South coast.
