We stayed for 11 nights at the Iberostar Waves Bouganville Playa hotel & had a wonderful time. We went on a Jet2 Holidays all inclusive package, mainly due to allergies within our family group; we had read online via the Gluten Free Tenerife Facebook group that this hotel catered well to complex allergies & we were well looked after by the managers & chefs. There were a few language barriers when it came to the allergies on the 1st night, but we worked it out & then felt safe for the rest of the time knowing what could be had. The staff were keen to help & understand & didn’t make us feel awkward for it, which was great. There was a separate section at each meal time for gluten free options & particularly at breakfast, some of those items were suitable for my son’s allergies too (dairy, egg, soya, gluten & peanuts). Being all inclusive gave us access to breakfast, lunch & dinner in the main restaurant, as well as being able to have food in the snack bar located next to the main swimming pool - definitely check out the Mr Whippy style machine down there! The majority of drinks were include for all inclusive guests, even a good number of of cocktails; it’s fair to say we drank way more than we normally would, especially with the pool bar being located right next to the main pool, it felt like a real treat! There are 3 swimming pools at the hotel, with the main pool (with the pyramid) being the 2nd warmest & filled with mild salt water. There are daily activities in the pool for adults, including waterpolo, water volleyball, water Zumba & more. The middle pool (the darker blue one) was a lot colder than the others, but was perfect for the really hot days. This was the deepest pool & tended to be the quietest whilst we were there. Next to this pool is also a toddler pool with a number of slides; this looked like fun, however we didn’t need to make use of it. The last pool is the kids pool with 5 water slides; our kids absolutely loved this pool as it was the warmest, varied in depth (allowing for sinkie diving) & had a good variety of slides which they would go down repeatedly for hours at a time. Practically I’d recommend paying the €20 pool towel deposit (per towel in cash), which you get back at the end of your stay (just remember to hang on to the cardboard slips after each visit to the pool). We hired a key for the room safe for €3 a day which was good & gave us peace of mind when we were out & about away from our rooms. There are daily activities at the hotel & it is recommended to download the Iberostar app to access the hotel’s information; you can use the free WiFi to do this once you’ve booked in. The archery was good enough to go 4 times during our stay, plus there was also darts, pétanque, bingo, shuffleboard on offer daily, as well as special events such as sangria making, paella making & sangria tasting & soap making. For the kids the Star Camp was a good experience; the week we went was better for the youngest age group of 4-7 years old; the 8-12 year old age group activities were the same as for the younger age group, so our older kids found it a bit boring as it wasn’t really tailored to them & they were the oldest kids there. That said the activities on offer were very varied; the kids club is open for a couple of hours in the morning; there are two 45-minute slots of activities in the morning & one 45-minute slot in the afternoon where the Star Camp staff look after the kids & parents can go off to do other things. This was probably the part that we felt could be better, with the kids club we had expected it to be open for 2 or 3 hours in the morning & 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon, but the 45 min slots didn’t really feel worth it since it was a tight time frame for drop off & pick up so not much relaxing to be had for parents in that time! What I will say is that the hotel staff, particularly the Star Camp staff, really made the stay for us; they were all so friendly to both adults & kids alike. No matter where you went in the hotel you were met with smiling faces & warm greeting, no matter which part of the staff they were on. Special thanks go out to the following staff for going above & beyond: Eidel the crepe man, who can make a crepe in any shape desired! We had a Grogu, peacock, horse, Mandalorian & rabbit, to name but a few! You have to queue for a while to get one, but it’s well worth the wait & he is a master of his craft! If you want a “normal” crepe he can do this as well & it will also save your wait time. Plus they were so thin, tasty & hot! Alexos, one of the head chefs, became a fast favourite with my kids by giving out a big welcome & fist bumps every day. 🤜🏻🤛🏻 He was also very adept at persuading us to have more food, even when we were already full! Pran & Franklin were working out on the balcony of the restaurant during our stay; they built up a great rapport with our kids; for example Franklin popping the cork of a bottle of cava off the balcony onto the grass below was a particular highlight for our kids (who went hunting for it after dinner!). The Star Camp & fitness/entertainment staff were unbelievable; I honestly don’t know how they had energy for all of the activities & shows they put on each day. Venessa, Javier, Dani, Amaria, Vincent & Nino are all superstars & we left feeling like they were more like friends than hotel staff. Carolina, one of the restaurant managers, will forever be known as the “Spider-Woman” in our household, as she always pretended to shoot spider webs at my son (after he wore his Spider-Man hat down to dinner); this resulted in them both pretending to shoot webs at each order ever time she passed by. She also left a lovely goodbye message in our room prior to our departure. Suhaila was one of the first people we met & provided excellent assistance when needing to accommodate our family’s allergies; she introduced us to the head chefs & walked us round the restaurant to explain the symbols above each dish, as well as explaining that we could order food direct from the kitchens, such as free from pizza & spaghetti bolognese. Prior to our arrival I emailed the hotel to say that we were going to celebrate a 40th birthday for one of our party; this resulted in a bottle of cava waiting in our room when we arrived (in addition to the welcome drink on arrival!). The kids also got a bottle of Champin (non alcoholic fruit fizz in a champagne-like bottle) & two plates of fruit the evening before we left. Everything I asked for in my email was accommodated & possibly the best parting gift was each of my kids getting a present from the Star Camp staff, which was so generous & unexpected. I can highly recommend a stay at this great Iberostar hotel!
