We proposed to plan for a holiday in the Maldives in early June and read a lot of reviews and comments on the internet. This was our first time going there and we finally chose Hideaway Beach Resort & SPA due to the fantastic lagoon and amazing snorkeling conditions. Also, the quite low density and large space of villas with excellent privacy attracted us a lot as we did not want to go to a crowded place. The resort had both water villas and beach villas which also fulfilled our wills to enjoy the different living experiences. Overall we had a great time there though only 4 nights and we would like to express thanks to the staff there. Here are some holiday experiences we would like to share, including some service suggestions: 1. Long-time transfer journey to the resort. The great distance between the resort and Male was really challenging. Initially, we ordered the seaplane and hoped to save our time. We easily found the staff at the airport and were smoothly transferred to the seaplane lounge. The lounge was great for taking a rest with plenty of choices of snacks. However, due to the bad weather in Ari Atoll, the seaplane was canceled. The staff suggested we change to domestic plane friendly and we surely took the advice. After a long time of travel, we arrived at the destination and got on the speed boat to finally go to the resort. The sea was really rough, and we were sat in the last row of the boat. We got wet by the waves but we were still happy that we finally reached the resort at around 5:00 pm and expected the beginning of the wonderful vacation. 2. Unexpected weather. The weather on our second day was really bad with the whole day's big rain. However, the lagoon was not affected and remained a dreamlike blue. That was really great! As we could not have outdoor activities, we called the buggy and went to the SPA center. The waitresses there were quite kind and we enjoyed our time there. Fortunately, the weather of the other two days was good with much smaller rain, and we tried guided house reef snorkeling (the tutors were also very kind and patient). The geographical condition of the island was great to have such a close snorkeling area, and we also tried short-time snorkeling on the morning of the day we left. We wanted to try the Dolphin Safari, but the weather did not allow it all the time. We changed to the Dhoni Sunrise Cruise but still did not see the dolphin and the sunrise. So the weather can affect the vacation experience a lot. 3. Abundant food supply. We selected the HB meal plan and can have a buffet breakfast and dinner at the Matheefaru restaurant. We can also try dinner at the Meeru Bar or Sunset Pool Café after reservation. So we tried them all, and they were all good to us. The singers, waiters, and waitresses in Matheefaru Restaurant and Meeru Bar were all very passionate and could quickly respond to our requests. 4. Pleased booking process: I made the booking directly to the official website of the resort and had a clear communication with Mr. Prem who answered my questions timely and optimized my offer package. A very nice person and can be better if WeChat is used rather than email. Finally, we also have some suggestions for the service of the resort: 1. Butler service: This time our butler was Joffre, and we thought his service could be much more improved. First, he did a fast and simple introduction to the resort with mainly dining service introduced. When we wanted to confirm the contents of the Wedding Anniversary offer package, he just said it was all provided. Second, after we added WeChat, I asked him about serval issues/requirements such as the content of the offer package, beach villa preference, seaplane arrangement, and leaving time arrangement, but either I received no response or a reply saying that all things were right and nothing can be changed. That was why I came to Reception 3-4 times to try to solve the issues by myself. Also, the receptionist said he would tell my butler about the results, but I heard nothing from my butler. So I had to go to the Reception to get the results. Third, the way he talked to us was quite uncomfortable. We often had feelings like we had a command from him, like “Tomorrow you have room move at 10:00” and “Tomorrow you have floating breakfast at 10:30”. He did not discuss with us about the time arrangement for that. Fourth, he almost did not smile when serving us, and this seemed to be different from other guests. In all, the butler appeared to just transfer the arrangement from the Reception to us like a robot, and would not try to solve our problems proactively. 2. Buggy service: It really took a certain time to wait for the buggy on the island. On our first day, we asked the butler to call the buggy and wait almost 1.5 hours for the buggy. The next time the butler asked us to call the buggy from Reception by ourselves. According to our experience, it might be easier to get on the buggy if it was passed by near you. The bicycles were also a good choice if you were in a hurry. Another thing was that some drivers seemed to flatter the whites, and asked us to sit in the back row of the buggy even if we came in the first place (It was rainy and we surely would get wet if we sat in there). As the seat was plenty, we did not follow his arrangement. 3. Waitress in the Sunset Pool Café: We saw the waitress was more passionate about other white guests near us and came to replenish their water frequently while we were ignored. This can be improved. 4. Content change of offer package: After I made the booking and requested the wedding anniversary offer package, the content was enhanced before I paid the balance amount and also before I came to the resort. Initially, I thought my offer content was revised automatically. However, after consulting the reception, they told me my request could not be fulfilled. I thought this was unfair. So we missed 1 unforgettable candlelight dinner set up at Meeru Beach. We did not remember the previous package content, and therefore we did not know we had the floating breakfast. So we did not discuss our preference about the arrangement with the butler, who also decided this without telling us. We suggest that the letter from the resort shows all the offer contents to make the guests clear about what they have.
