Land activities

Golf in Gumbet

Golf may not feature in the top favourite sports for Turks, but either way, you're in for something more exclusive. A little more inland, in Ortakent, Bodrum Golf & Tennis Club will transform the driving range into a putt-galore with the ability to turn a nine-hole par course into 18. Expect endless valley greens, courts and a restaurant shaded by mangroves to satisfy that post-match hunger.

Cycling & mountain biking in Altinkum

Gumbet's relatively flat coastal roads are perfect for road cycling. With beautiful seaside views, they're suitable for cyclists of all levels. The hills and mountains surrounding Gumbet have fantastic mountain biking, with routes of varying difficulty levels and spectacular views of the Aegean Sea.  Several companies in Gumbet offer bicycle rental, but call ahead if you're looking for something more specific than a generic mountain bike. The tour agencies are good for guided tours with bikes and helmets. It's our favourite way to explore historical sites, local villages, and scenic routes off the beaten path.

Walking & hiking in Altinkum

The resort town of Gumbet itself is quite walkable, and you can stroll along the beach, visit local shops and markets, or explore the various restaurants and bars. The Bodrum Peninsula Walks near Gumbet take you through olive groves, traditional villages, and along the coast offering fantastic views of the Aegean Sea. If you're willing to venture a bit further, the region is home to archaeological sites and ancient ruins including the Bodrum Castle, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and the Ancient Theatre of Halicarnassus in nearby Bodrum, which can be reached by foot or a short local bus (dolmuş) ride. Overlooking Gumbet and Bodrum are old, disused windmills. A hike to these windmills isn't too strenuous and rewards you with panoramic views of Gumbet, Bodrum and the surrounding coast.
