You can reach this Turkish gem by taking a direct flight from London and other regional airports across the UK and Ireland. The nearest airport to Altinkum is Chios Airport (JHK), located just over eight and a half miles from Altinkum. The typical flight time is four hours, although it may vary slightly depending on the location of your departure. Alternatively, you can fly to Bodrum Airport (BJV), Izmir Airport (ADB) or Samos Airport (SMI). Best Beaches in Altinkum

Altinkum nightlife is more than enough to satisfy even the most hardcore partygoers in town. The young and young-at-heart are spoilt for choice with plenty to choose from, whether it’s a couple of cocktails at the oceanfront bar or a night away in a vibrant disco. Altinkum centre is the hotspot with most bars situated in the central two squares of the town. The beach is lined with an array of bars boasting entertainment such as karaoke, dancing performances and prismatic dance floors, suitable for couples and families alike. If you fancy a raucous night of putting on the groove, you have plenty of nightclubs to choose from in Altinkum. Medusa Nightclub is one of our favourites, where the open-air club faces the dazzling Aegean coast overlooking the bay.

Whether British, Turkish, or everything in between, your taste buds will find what they are after in Altinkum. British holidaymakers can make themselves feel at home with restaurants serving fish and chips or a traditional Sunday roast. For great food in general, head to the Star Bar, located a couple of roads inland from the beach. To discover Turkish cookery, try unique dishes, including ‘guvec,’ prepared and served in an enclosed clay pot – the dish itself can vary in different restaurants. Chinese, Mediterranean, plus seafood dishes are also on the table!

Shop ‘til you drop is the motto in Altinkum. Numerous shops line the crescent waterfront including souvenir stalls, fake designer clothing stores, and gift shops selling flashy vases, magnets and more. Most shopping scenes happen at Dolphin Square in the main town centre. It’s a great place for good quality jewellery at reasonable prices.

Altinkum is the perfect holiday destination for anyone who likes to keep busy. Along its long sandy beach, you can try any number of fun things on and off the water; hire a jet ski, take a boat trip or just go crazy on an inflatable banana boat ride. If you want to explore the rich cultural history of the region then take a fascinating and informative excursion to the vast Roman ruins at Ephesus or visit the Ionian city of Didyma.

Diving in Altinkum

The warm, clear seas around Turkey’s coast teem with marine life and are almost perfect for scuba diving. The Altinkum region has many dive schools to choose from where beginners can have ‘taster’ sessions or the more experienced can hire equipment. All instructors are fully certified, and the equipment is good quality. During your underwater excursions you can expect to glide over rocky ledges and submerged forests of seagrass whilst encountering shoals of multicoloured small fish, as well as seeing some larger examples of aquatic life such as parrotfish, octopus and stingrays. So grab a wetsuit and flippers, strap on your air tanks and enjoy Turkey from below.

Surfing in Altinkum

Altinkum’s calm sea conditions mean that it isn’t a suitable surfing destination. However, If surfing is a must during your holiday to Turkey, then we recommend you visit Alanya or Rumeli Feneri which, surprisingly, is just outside of Istanbul.

Windsurfing & kitesurfing in Altinkum

The Altinkum region is a great place for windsurfing. The calm flat seas provide a smooth surface for all levels of surfer, while the prevailing winds make for a thrilling experience. Many schools around the various beaches offer lessons for beginners or just rent equipment for the more experienced. Instructors are all qualified and instruction is normally given in English. One of the most popular locations is Second Bay Beach, which holds a windsurfing competition once a year, however, if you decide to windsurf here, we recommend booking in advance as it can become very busy.

Sailing in Altinkum

The perfect way to unwind while seeing some of the wonderful Altinkum coastline is to sign up for an organised boat trip. This could be a loud and brash ‘party’ boat or a more leisurely ‘lazy day’ cruise. Whatever you choose, you will not be disappointed as you gently sail around the stunning Altinkum coast visiting secluded beaches and coves where you can swim in amazingly clear waters.

Most excursions will include pick up and drop off from your hotel to Altinkum Beach, where the majority of boat trips depart from. Freshly cooked lunch on board is included as well as a well-stocked bar offering alcoholic and soft drinks, although you can expect to pay extra for these unless you are taking the party option. For a typical full day trip, expect to pay around £15 per adult and £10 for children, which we consider an absolute bargain.

Fishing in Altinkum

Fishing in the Altinkum region is an important part of the local economy and provides a living for many locals. It is also a great place to be if you enjoy angling for pleasure with an abundance of tasty, edible delicacies to be hooked. Many fishing day trips are available and most are suitable for the family with sunbeds and snorkelling equipment often available for non-anglers.

Expect to start early in the morning from Altinkum Beach, where you will head off to the deeper waters offshore around Didim and Akbuk. While sailing to the fishing areas you will receive a hearty breakfast before being given your rods and reels to begin the day's sport. Most boats have GPS ‘fish locators’ on board so you should be guaranteed a healthy catch, which if you wish, can easily become a very fresh lunch.

The vast golf course contains endless greenland and lakes surrounded by pine forests.
