Best beaches in Lindos

Lindos is famous for its beautiful streets of traditional whitewashed Greek houses, but its beaches are equally magnificent and complement the town perfectly. The jewel in the crown is St Paul's Bay, two incredible coves which are said to be where St Paul landed and brought Christianity to Rhodes. The beaches around Lindos are made up of fine sand and shallow seas, ideal for families with young children. Some of the most popular and accessible spots can get crowded in high season, but wander along the coastal path or look for a hidden trail and you'll soon find a stretch of unspoilt beach that you can call your own.

Top beaches in Lindos

Lindos beach

Lying at the foot of the beautiful picture-perfect town of Lindos is the delightful Lindos Beach. The beach is 400m of soft beige sand lapped by calm, clear turquoise waters which are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The gently sloping sands mean that the sea remains shallow for quite a distance, before gently getting deeper, making this the ideal spot for families with young children. The area is well served by beach kiosks, taverns and restaurants as well as an abundance of sun beds for hire. There are also plenty of water-based activities to be sampled including, water-skiing, parasailing and banana boats. The beach can become crowded in peak season, so we recommend an early start if you want to secure the best spot for a day’s relaxation.

Pallus beach

If you prefer your beaches to be a little more authentic and less touristy, then can we recommend Pallus Beach. Hidden away just below the town of Lindos, this is Lindos Beaches smaller but perfectly formed neighbour. It can be reached from the main beach via a narrow coastal path or from a footpath near the start of the famous donkey trail up to the Acropolis. The beach has basic facilities compared to some of the larger ones in the area but this only adds to its charm and there are still plenty of tavernas offering wholesome food and drinks. One word of caution, avoid swimming near the jetty as there are an abundance of sea urchins here, which could spoil your day.

St Paul's Bay

Just outside of Lindos is the stunning St Pauls Bay. Tradition states that this bay is where St Paul landed to bring Christianity to Rhodes, hence its name. Arriving by road provides spectacular views of the two coves that make up the bay, certainly one of the most beautiful in Greece and often voted as one of the best beaches in the World. There is free parking available near the beach and a short walk brings you to sand and pebble beaches surrounded by rock formations, which many visitors exploit as natural diving boards. The beaches themselves are very organised with plenty of sun loungers and cabanas for hire, beach bars, toilet and shower facilities. The whole area has a vibrant but chilled atmosphere as people relax and enjoy this remarkable stretch of coast line.

Navarone Bay

Navarone Bay lies just a few kilometres south of Lindos. It is the ideal destination for those who want to escape the crowds for the day while enjoying one of the most beautiful spots on the island. The bay is surrounded by barren hills and an arid, parched landscape that opens out onto astonishingly clear, unnaturally blue waters. This peaceful spot is split in two, with one half almost untouched by tourism and the other more developed with the usual mix of sun loungers and bars. The big attraction here is the water, which is warmer, due to its sheltered location, and incredibly clear, allowing fantastic views of the marine life that inhabits this area. Be warned, there are many rocks on the beach, hidden just below the surface of the water. Footwear is therefore essential if you want to avoid stubbing your toes.

Vlycha Beach

To the south of Lindos lies Vlycha beach, the locals' favourite place to relax and escape the crowds. Here you'll find the locals chatting to vendors and shopkeepers who are family or friends, while relaxing alongside tourists enjoying the peace and quiet of this little gem. The beach is large enough not to be overcrowded, but it remains intimate and is perfect for families with young children who simply want some space to relax and play in the sand. The beach has all the usual facilities, and several of the island's best hotels are close by, as well as excellent restaurants.
