Mykonos family holidays

Although Mykonos is not noted for its family-friendly activities and attractions, that doesn't mean it should be excluded from the list of places to visit with children. Mykonos is home to family-friendly beaches with shallow, calm waters and a wide range of water sports, including paddleboarding, snorkelling and windsurfing. Why not take the little ones on a day trip by boat to explore the beautiful Mykonos coastline and stop off at family-friendly spots, or enjoy a delicious meal of local Greek cuisine at a restaurant in Little Venice. Although Mykonos is mainly aimed at adults, with a little planning it is an ideal destination for a family holiday.

Best activities in Mykonos for families

Mykonos may have a reputation for being a bit of a party island, but rest assured it's also the perfect place for a family trip. With pristine beaches, warm calm seas and gentle winds that make the summer months bearable, Mykonos has everything you need for a traditional family getaway. However, leave the beaches and hotel pools alone and you'll find plenty of other activities to discover, such as a family adventure off the beaten track. Hire quads, strap on your helmets and explore the island while having the time of your life. If you want to explore the island at a slower pace, hire mountain bikes and take one of the many trails that link the island's beaches and sites. Take advantage of Mykonos' location and board a luxury catamaran for a fun and informative tour of the Aegean, or stay closer to home and head to the island of Tinos to try your hand at rock climbing, where giant granite boulders offer vertical challenges for all ages and experience levels.

Best destinations in Mykonos for families

Mykonos is a beautiful Greek island and, with its pristine sandy beaches and safe, refreshing seas, it's an ideal destination for families. True, it has a reputation for being a party island, but this side of the island's personality only becomes apparent in the early hours of the morning, when the younger guests have gone to bed. The old town of Mykonos is a great place to stroll before sunset, as it's relatively quiet and too early for groups of rowdy revellers to be out and about. However, if you don't want the nightlife to keep you awake, we recommend staying a few kilometres from the town, in small resorts such as Platis Gialos or Ornos, close enough for easy access to Mykonos but far enough away to keep your children cool.

Best hotels in Mykonos for families

Just twenty minutes from Mykonos town lies the luxurious Myconian Imperial Hotel. The Imperial is located just above one of the island's most beautiful beaches, at Elia. The hotel is very popular with families. With three swimming pools, a children's pool, a private beach, whirlpools, a games room, a TV lounge and an outdoor play area, the little ones won't be bored. The air-conditioned rooms have a tasteful, modern theme and balconies overlooking Elia beach. The hotel has a luxurious spa and several restaurants serving a variety of quality dishes. These include Meltimi, where you can enjoy an excellent American breakfast, or Celebrities, an à la carte restaurant serving the finest Mediterranean cuisine. For the older members of the family, there are also two cocktail bars and a beach bar. If you're looking for family fun in a stylish location, the Myconian Imperial is the place for you.
