Best beaches in Kardemena

In the heart of Kardamena is a magnificent 3km sandy beach, renowned for its lively bars and cafés, bursting with music and energy. In the immediate vicinity, there are secluded beaches waiting to be discovered, most only accessible by 4x4, which is a little adventurous but well worth the effort. Nestled among the many fishing villages and harbours that dot the Kardamena coast are a number of picturesque stretches of sand.

Kardamena Beach

Nestling in the heart of Kardamena resort the beach here is a magnet for those seeking some sea, sand and fun. This 3km piece of sand stretches out from the harbour and is well served by vibrant beach bars and cafes buzzing with music and energy. On the beach, you'll find plenty of sun beds for hire and a wide variety of water activities. The rocky seabed here makes it a great place for snorkelling and exploring the many varieties of marine life but can also be a bit of a hazard so we strongly advise that you wear some suitable footwear to protect those delicate toes.

Cavo Paradiso

If you love unspoilt beaches off the beaten track, you can't do better than Cavo Paradiso. Situated on the southern tip of Kos and just a short distance from the seaside resort of Kardamena, this beautiful little bay can only be reached by a steep, narrow dirt track, which is best negotiated in a 4x4 vehicle. However, it is well worth the effort, as it is a little corner of paradise virtually untouched by tourism. A small beach café offers a limited number of sun loungers for hire and a few snacks, but that's it. So, find your place on the golden sands, spread out your towel and enjoy one of the few 'wild' beaches in the region.

Limnionas Beach

At the southern end of the island, a short distance from Kardamena, lies Limnionas beach. This uncommercialised bay is a real piece of traditional Greece, with its small harbour and fishing boats bobbing on the crystal blue sea. With a limited number of sun loungers for hire, we think it's more a place to visit for the tranquillity and beauty rather than for sunbathing and swimming, although the rocky left side is ideal for snorkelling. A small taverna overlooks the harbour and serves fresh, locally caught seafood at very reasonable prices - not to be missed on your trip.

Paradise Beach

Situated on the southwest coast, and just a short distance from Kardamena, Paradise Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Kos. And for good reason. This beach is about fun. Covered in sunbeds and umbrellas, this strip of golden sand is lapped by shallow waters which make it an ideal location for water-based fun. You will not be able to resist the inflatable rides, jet skis, parascending, water-skiing and other activities available - even a large water slide. The beach is also known as Bubble Beach as the water is aerated by volcanic gases, giving a fizzy feel. It should also be noted that this piece of coastline is also affected by cold currents making the sea feel colder than you would expect – great for escaping that summer sun.

Camel Beach

Not far from Kardamena is Camel Beach, a small, rocky cove reached by a steep, bumpy road. The route down to the beach is suitable for scooters and other small vehicles, but many choose to walk down as it's often difficult to get motorised transport back up to the top because of the severity of the incline. Whichever way you choose to approach Camel Beach, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the nearby, picturesque Kastri Island. And once down, you'll experience an uncrowded beach served by a quaint taverna, and warm, calm seas ideal for snorkelling.
