Best activities in Kos for families

Kos is great for families. Not only does it have stunning coastlines with golden beaches and warm, safe seas, but it also offers many alternative activities that the whole family can enjoyed. Some of our favourites include a trip to the hillside ruins of Asklepion, one of the world’s first hospitals, or Kos Archaeological Museum with its large, captivating floor mosaic and ancient statues. Alternatively. Let your kids’ imaginations run riot as you step into the medieval Castle of the Knights in Kos old town and explore an imposing fortress built to defend the town against attacks from the Turks or take a look at how people used to live by visiting one of the traditional Greek homes open to the public. When all that history becomes too much, then why not treat the family to some fun at one of the two water parks on the island, Aquatica or Lido, the latter being the best for those travelling with younger children.

Best destinations in Kos for families

With water parks, beaches and an abundance of entertaining activities available, Kos is the ideal family holiday destination. If it’s a purely beach based holiday that you are looking for, then we recommend the mid-southwest coastline where plenty of family orientated resorts spread along the 10 km stretch of golden sandy beaches with enticing names such as Paradise Beach, Magic Beach and Exotic Beach. All have plenty of free facilities, such as toilets and changing rooms. Running east from Kos town is the region of Psalidi, a renowned child-friendly area with many hotels providing free kid’s clubs and organised activities, with one popular choice actually having its own water park. If you want something a little quieter and laid back, then Kamari is for you. Here you will find small family run hotels or self-catering villas, and with the Greek's love of children you can expect your little ones to be well looked after.

Best hotels in Kos for families

If you like the idea of staying in a family resort complex, but don’t want to lose the intimacy that a smaller hotel would offer, then the Peridis Family Resort is for you. This 5-star location only has five buildings which makes it feel cosy and friendly and the staff go out of their way to try to provide that personal touch, creating a different type of family experience. This is the only family resort inside the Kos capital, which means that shopping, beaches and the Marina are all easily accessible. Inside the resort, you'll find three swimming pools, two whirlpools, tennis courts a large outdoor playground and indoor soft play area. The studio rooms and apartments are comfortable and come with balconies overlooking the town. Free baby packages can be requested, which include a cot, highchair and changing mat, bath, monitor and potty. And when you want to have that special night together, a nanny service is available for booking. Older children can attend a kids club during the day offering numerous fun activities, and as the evening draws in why not settle down as a family and enjoy one of the regular Greek nights with traditional food, music and dancing.
