El Convento

We held the Welcome Party for our son’s wedding in the courtyard of El Convento. Nelia and her staff we excellent to work with, both leading up to the event and the night of. Service was fabulous and the food was delicious. The courtyard was a beautiful setting.

We had a phenomenal wedding experience with Hotel El Convento! From the first meeting with Nelia, the tasting, and our wedding stay and experience. The team is one of the most professional and expert wedding teams I have seen. Even our guests thought this was the best wedding they have ever attended. We are so grateful and will remember this for the rest of our lives.

I recently hosted a small private birthday dinner here and could not have been more pleased with how everything turned out. I worked in hospitality for almost 20 years so I personally know what it takes to get an event from start to finish. From the very beginning, Gabriella and her team were responsive and accommodating to all of my requests. During our dinner, the banquet staff was so on top of every detail. They allowed us some flexibility in the timing of dinner and made sure a wine glass was never more than half empty. They were present during the event and incredibly responsive to our needs. We preselected a three course meal along with several passed hors d’oeuvres and everything was fantastic. I would highly recommend hosting an event here, the night was everything I could have dreamed of. Thank you, Hotel El Convento!

Wow--I've never seen such whiney reviews! To think I almost passed this up because of of a few negative reviews! This place is a GEM--in the heart of and in the most convenient location in Old San Juan. It's an antique building, and a converted convent--if you want perfect silence, a generic room with all the bells and whistles, please--go stay at a Marriott somewhere! I found it perfectly enchanting--my room had high ceilings with beams and my own private covered patio! I'm a light sleeper and my room was literally across an aisle from the restaurant. I slept perfectly well--they stop all service at 11 p.m.--if you go to bed before then, you're probably not having a great vacation! All service people were amazing, accommodating and friendly. Had Eggs Benedict and cappuccino for breakfast and a margarita and watermelon salad for lunch--all perfectly delicious--can't wait to come back!

Be aware this is a wedding venue. We stayed for 3 nights and every night there was a wedding which included LOUD music until 11 pm. Impossible to go to sleep before 11pm. The shower had poor pressure from the ceiling showerhead forcing you to use the handheld showerhead which could not be used when in the wall mount. The stopper in the bath sink did not work. We left a cash tip for the maid only to find a housekeeping gratuity had been added to our bill. Not recommended.
