We booked a holiday with BA holidays with flights , rental car,Park tickets and a 6 bedroom house with pool described as “Executive Plus”. On arrival we found the property’s condition to be way below that description ! 8464 Secret Cove on Emerald Island . The property needs renovating - I wouldn’t say it was tired - more like exhausted. The house felt grimy and the floor had not been cleaned for a long time - amazing especially in this Covid era! Some interior furniture was broken including one bed and the bed in the master bedroom was so uncomfortable with lumps and bumps in the mattress plus a hell of a creaking noise at the slightest movement - god knows how old it was! The fridge had been leaking on the floor. Windows couldn’t be opened. The pool area was also in need of a good clean. We found chewing gum stuck to the floor of the pool jacuzzi and lots of debris in the pool from overhanging trees - unlike neighbouring houses which had kept nearby trees well cut back. The poolside furniture was dirty to say the least and consisted of old cheap plastic chairs which were so brittle from the sun that they often collapsed when sat on. When I complained to the management company Ocean Beds they replied that this was all normal wear and tear. At one point they blamed the tropical storm which hit South Florida but had not touched our area! The electrics throughout the house were in a poor state with loose and broken sockets and plugs. 1 smoke alarm was missing which was the one thing that was replaced. 2 days into the stay water began dripping through a ceiling electric light fitting which was the last straw and after 2 more days complaints to BA resulted in them agreeing to us finding alternative accommodation since the management company had not responded to this dangerous situation. It took me a couple of days to get another house nearby but we ended up spending our 2nd weeks holiday in a very nice villa which was in good condition. Our last 2 days in this awful house saw more more leaking water resulting in one part of the ceiling artex falling down and purely from our own investigations we found that the water Ingress was due to a problem in the air conditioning resulting in stagnant water laying under upstairs floorboards. This problem had obviously been there for quite some time and my immediate fear was for Legionnaires disease. Thankfully we moved properties the next day. On that last day someone had visited the house while we were out and effected a temporary repair to the ceiling. An air con technician had visited to confirm the problem and on the surface things looked ok but I would advise against anybody living in this house until a full check had been made. BA for their part tried to be helpful but we’re let down by the management company. They did pay for the alternative house but I had to source it myself which just added to the stress. They have offered a partial refund but are consulting with Ocean Beds so I will have to keep the pressure on for compensation for putting my family’s lives in danger. As you can imagine this experience ruined our holiday and I would warn anyone against accepting this house unless it has been fully brought up to the advertised level.
