How I would have loved to of given 5 stars for my review as this hotel is very special but a couple of areas let it down hence the 4 star rating. Let’s start with the good… It’s super impressive, from the amazing open plan lobby and grand chandeliers to the beautifully set out cake shop and the afternoon chocolatiers. Everywhere was spotless, I did not see anything unclean or untidy our entire stay. Found the staff very helpful, only had to stand still in a spot and a member of staff would appear and ask if you were ok. This was throughout and staff couldn’t do enough. Cleaning ladies were very pleasant, always a smile and a hello and cleaned the room thoroughly. Food was plentiful in the main restaurant, pretty spoilt for choice. Freshly cooked and a vast variety of meats, pasta, salad, pizza, a fresh cheese counter, Chinese section, you name it, it was there. You’d be hard pushed not to find something you liked. It was well run, a well oiled machine and nothing ever ran out. Drinks were on tap and you were never left very long, if at all with an empty glass before a waiter appeared to refill. Great service. We did struggle one day as we missed lunch and the weather was so bad the outside food places (kebab) (pizza) (beach bar) were not open so the only place offering a meal was the sports bar which only offered 2/3 dishes (buffet style) at best. This was a shame, they could have done with an indoor place serving afternoon pizza, burgers etc…in the bad weather - but needless to say we didn’t miss lunch again lol. The entertainment was hit and miss, we enjoyed some of the shows but not all of them but that is likely down to personal taste. It was nice to have a show to go to after dinner especially as it was the winter concept and a lot of hotels don’t offer this. There was also live music in the bar which got packed every evening, The not so good…. We had a week of dire weather, and by this I mean it thundered, lightening and absolutely poured down pretty much the entire week :( we were gutted. I mention this as our room flooded through the terrace doors. I got up to use the bathroom and nearly went flying. Now we paid to upgrade our room and it was fab… huge balcony.. jacuzzi… loads of space but then we flooded past midnight. In the hotels defence they offered us another smaller room (albeit 1 bed less than we needed so not really viable) and tried to help, but said there was nothing they could do. So there we were stuffing towels along the bottom and sides on the doors to stop the water running across the bedroom floors. The maids helped us change the towels daily. Not ideal and definitely not expecting leaky terrace doors in a luxury room of a 5 star hotel. The Chinese A La Carte is as awful, I don’t take using that description lightly. The starters were ok, spring roll - can’t really go wrong with that. The main - Orange chicken & rice was inedible. It was a bowl of chicken gloop, all stuck together, bland, tasteless, the rice was literally two dessert spoons, overcooked and not very nice either. We didn’t eat it. The waiter asked when he returned and he apologised profusely offering another dish but tbh it really put us off. The table next to us also quietly complained, leaving all their food on the table to go eat upstairs. Which is exactly what we did too. We didn’t try any of the other A La Cartes as it put us off that much. Our expectation was that the A La Carte restaurants would surpass the main restaurant but in this instance it was not the case. We were there for New Years Eve. This was a huge, huge disappointment for us. We were expecting a few fireworks outside when the clock struck 12 but nope. Nada… not a thing. There was a countdown party down by the beach with strobe lights and thumping bass music with no lyrics, but not really for families at all. NYE was so low key it didn’t make sense given the grand scale of the hotel and the effort that goes into everything else. I would not wish to spend New Years Eve there again. Entertainment wise it was the worst. The hotel do offer a NYE gala night to guests, it is 150€ pp. I did wonder if this was the reason for everything else New Yesrs Eve being pretty much non existent. In summary, it is a very beautiful hotel with only a few areas that let it down for us. Would I recommend visiting… 100% for sure! but not on NYE (unless you wish to pay extra & Gala) and not in December unless you’re happy to gamble the weather. Everything else was superb!
