Following various research on where to stay on the Island; North South, East or West, I settled to stay at the beautiful Location of Kanoni on the East side. What can I say about this Hotel.... We arrived late at night and tired, no warm welcome from the staff at reception, no welcome drinks, no smile, the person at reception was keen for us to complete forms and pay the 10 euro a day tourist tax charge. We were then ushered to our room on the 4th floor with a view of the runway, we love aeroplanes and appreciated the runway view, which was incredible to see the aeroplanes land and take off, however no matter where you are placed in the hotel the views are stunning. Location is EXCELLENT... but.... this Hotel should not be classed as a 5 star and I feel sad to say this as I love the location, they don't have all the facilities and no idea how to fully utilise the space they have. There is no animation team, repetitive music at the beach bar. From my understanding this was formerly a Hilton Hotel and Standards are not a 5 star! We stayed for 9 nights and the noise from the aeroplanes did not bother us at all, not disturbed by this, not extremely loud, was actually fascinating to watch. Positives Kefi Bar - lovely entertainment in the evening for two hours, the DJ is very repetitive which I believe is on two nights in the week. Drinks are reasonable priced at the Kefi and Beach Bar. They have happy hour from 16:00 to 17:00 at the beach bar and I believe there is a 30 mins difference at the pool bar. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free on the beach and at the pool area. If your looking for stairs to the beach which is not signposted, this is located towards the sharing pool area. Beautiful, Tranquil, Calm warm sea that is crystal clear in the morning and gets a bit muggy by the afternoon. Food at the beach bar is ok, no variety, just pizza, gyros and club sandwiches and salads that cost 12 euros, Gyros are 5 euros. Flisvos restaurant and Kanoni Cafe is a must to try, highly recommend both restaurants, Great Food there! The ladies at the mini market are friendly and met our needs, always smiling unlike other staff at the hotel. Guest relations lady is lovely and worth talking to her as she is best to advise where to go and see on Corfu Island. Negatives Hotel staff not the friendliest. No lifeguards by the pool or beach. Cigarette buds are on the beach (although I have seen them clean the beach in the mornings however, alot is missed and there is no one to oversee the cleanliness of the beach area, never met any of the managers). Staff are miserable and overworked, a selected few which I never knew on a named basis. Konstantinos I remember was friendly and the two ladies and two bar men at the Kefi were were friendly (no names remembered). Not a sandy beach. Very rocky and pebbly, so take beach shoes. Sea is warm and lovely and looked Green at times. Far side near the Kayaks and Paddle boats there is a closed off area part of the sea where there is 3 tubes that looks like it's coming from the hotel, not sure what type of waste water that is. Crabs in the sea. Did not see any Jelly Fish. Got bitten by something in the water, nothing to worry about, was a little pinch. On the Beach there is a QR code located on each umbrella and this is just the food menu. They have a hotel app, used this once that details were to go and timings for breakfast etc, cannot order anything from the app. No waiter service to the sunbed unless your lucky enough to catch them and call them over. We was on Half-Board basis and Breakfast is ok, certainty not 5 star quality, pancakes and hash browns are cold. Two coffee machines with ground coffee beans DE brand and a standard instant coffee machine. Normally a 5 star hotel will guide you to your table and offer tea and coffee to be served at your table. Not at this hotel, you have to get up and queue for tea and coffee. Evening meals not great, had better, not 5 star quality. Nice selection of Fruits, not much selection on Salads, Fish is daily and chicken, frozen chips, average food nothing to shout about. The lift down to the beach can be very frustrating as it only can take 4 people. Can be a long wait when busy. Swimming pool is warm, surprised to see people allowed to swim post 7 pm, I never saw anyone clean the pool in the evening apart from adding what I assume is a cleaning or chlorine chemical. Bus is every 20 mins outside the Hotel that takes you to Corfu Town, 2 euros paying on the bus cash or card or 1.20 euros if bought from the mini market opposite the hotel. One afternoon we had heavy rainfall and the next day at dinner time the dinner hall looked like a scene from a movie, I got bitten 50 plus times from mosquitos, all you could hear is slapping and waving arms to keep the mosquitos away. Staff was helpless, did not try to solve anything apart from closing the windows. They must have known following heavy rain that the next day will bring alot of mosquitos and nothing was put in place to prevent them from coming in. This was very badly handled, no apologies, nothing... was really bad. The next few days I noticed that people stayed away at breakfast and dinner times. Surely the hotel must of experienced this before, how could they not have something in place to avoid this from happening, why was windows opened then closed once they realised the complaints. Also please be careful with the sockets in the room, they do fall out from the wall and is not securely placed. No AC in the Hotel or the Room that is 5 star standard. In the Rooms the AC fan is very noisy and not cold. AC at Reception is only AC towers and not proper AC. Dated decor Bad lighting in the corridors Colour scheme is dark and mahogany. Reception area is classic design Ice cubes at the Beach Bar does not taste like Ice, when I questioned this I was told it's made from a Ice Machine... (not sure when this was last serviced). I highly recommend you visit Corfu Town Sky View Flisvos Restaurant Cafe Kanoni - great open Gyros with the view of St. Mary Vlechera church. Pontikonisi worth a visit Paxos Islands too Overall, I would not stay here again, I would visit the area of Kanoni, as it's stunning and the lovely restaurants nearby. This is excellent location for aeroplane lovers! Such a shame as this Hotel needs alot of improvement. Impressed that the Kefi Bar held alot of celebs back in the day.
