I love the concept of a resort with bungalows built into a hill along the Caribbean coast. The location and vegetation at Cocos are stunning. Check in was easy, WiFi login by QR code and room key is a physical key. Need anything, they give you a number to text or you can use WhatsApp. We had a sunset view cottage. Initially given room #17. Room was clean, and very rustic. Air conditioning blew very cold. Toilet was very weak with water pressure. After discovering toilet issues, a text was sent, and a reply was received several minutes later. Maintenance came out and worked on the toilet until it was fixed. Great guy, but we were down a toilet and bathroom access for 2 hours after checking in. Sure, we could’ve gone down to use the courtesy room, but that is quite a hike up and down the hill. After our first night, which was quite chilly with the AC (not complaining), we woke up, went out for a nice beach walk and then stayed down at the lower elevation for breakfast. When we got back to our room our AC was off. We waited until after lunch to see if it would come back on, on its own. After it did not, we texted the front desk. No reply. Half an hour later I text again. Finally 1.5 hours after the initial text I get a reply that maintenance has been notified. Maintenance comes and expertly fixes the remote and gets the AC on. Day 3, we go on an excursion, come back, use our newly rebuilt toilet, and again the toilet fails to flush. Not what you want when you get back from a boat. Maintenance is notified, we go to beach to hang out while we think the toilet is being worked on. We give an hour, walk to front desk on the way back and ask if toilet has been fixed (because I don’t wanna walk back down if it’s still being worked on, or hasn’t been checked yet). I was assured it was fixed. We hike up to the room….its still not fixed. I hike back down. While I’m down talking to front desk inquiring about a room change, the maintenance man shows up to fix the toilet while my wife is in the room. Toilet flushes for him no problem. Not sure what the issue was, seemed like a water pressure/supply issue. The manager, Kris, put us in Room #21 for the next day. Our new room was much better, toilet flushed with proper authority and AC worked as expected. Beaches are beautiful. Valley Church beach was probably our favorite to relax on. The bar and grill are great spots to relax at. On the Jolly Beach side, the beach chairs need some TLC, and they could benefit from a few more. The paddle boards and kayaks are a little weathered, but they were fun to use. The outdoor shower took a bit of time to find as it’s tucked back by the pool. The pool infrastructure needs some TLC. Broken tiles and dangerous decking Surround the pool. Watch out for nail heads poking from the deck around the sunbeds at the far end of the pool ready to poke into bare feet. Pool was refreshing, but could use more frequent cleanings. I liked all our meals, menus always had several good options to choose from. Service was good and the view was spectacular. Unfortunately my minibar preference sheet was not fully followed. Vodka, rum, tonic water, beer and local juice was checked off. Upon arrival we have everything but local juices. After the 2nd day of no local juices I sent a text asking if some could be delivered. After an hour and twenty minutes, a text is received that juices will be delivered. Juice Is delivered and delicious. It’s not restocked Monday. Again requested via text on Tuesday. 4 hours later I get a reply that juice is going to be delivered. After that juice, I never got any more juices delivered. On our final day our request for a replenishment for vodka was unanswered. I gave up. The text system is good in theory, but a huge customer service liability if not checked or executed properly. It was a relaxing week, but it could’ve been so much more. In its current state, I don’t think I could recommend Cocos to a friend.
