Cocobay Resort Antigua -All Inclusive- Adults Only

Went on a couples trip with some friends and we had a wonderful time. The good: The location of this hotel can't be beat. We had a pool suite room and it had breathtaking views. The room had a very rustic feel and was very clean/comfortable. The food was pretty okay but I wish they had more authentic food and more options. The Bad: Although It's a very relaxing resort, there is no ambiance. There were some nights where they had live music by the main restaurant but once it was over at 9pm, there was nothing to do after. The bars close very early too (I believe 10pm) The entire place pretty much shuts down and there is nothing to do. The Great: The staff really makes this place feel special. They get to know the people visiting and make you feel like family. Derrick went out of his way to accommodate us every way he could. One time we were hungry and he called the main restaurant to have bar bites ready for us when we got there (they were getting ready to close.) The staff make this place so incredibly welcoming.

We stayed here for 11 nights on our recent trip arriving along a very bumpy dirt road (the "proper" road was under maintenance and not passable). The hotel is set on a small headland with beaches on both sides (although only one of them is directly accessible from the hotel). A third beach is about a 5 minute walk away so plenty to chose from! The accomodation is fairly low density being cabins scattered through the tropical gardens. I wasn't convinced by the cabin to begin with as it felt pretty rustic but it kind of grew on me and depsite only booking a standard cabin we still had a pretty good sea and sunset view from the cabin deck. The room and bathroom size are ok and whilst not particularly modern they do the job. There's a slightly fiddly safe deposit box, tea & coffee making facilities but no TV and rather enthusiastic air conditioning! Food was generally very good. There was a reasonable choice at all 3 meals and whilst some of the portions aren't particularly large it was ample for us given the number of courses you receive over the entirety of the day. Additionally there were afternoon snacks available by the pool or bar and a coffee shop whenever you felt the need for a little pick-me-up. The bars also served decent cocktails that didn't taste artificially sweetened (the Cheeky Grin soon became a firm favourite!). Service was generally very pleasant and friendly but there's always a couple of people that let the side down. Luckily by keeping our fingers crossed each mealtime we seemed to mostly avoid the one or two misery guts. There are 2 main pools and even though we were there during peak season we never had any problems getting a sunbed (as long as we weren't fussy about which pool we wanted to sit by). The hotel also has plenty of sunbeds on the beach. One downside to the tropical setting is that there are plenty of bitey insects so if you're prone to end up as insect fodder then make sure you take some good quality repellant. I debated whether to give this review 4 or 5 stars but went for 5 stars in the end on the basis that in retrospect we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we ever went back to Antigua we would definitely consider staying here again. Don't go expecting 5 star luxury and you shouldn't end up too disappointed!

We booked a package with WestJet vacations. Important to note as package rooms are not as good as booking direct. A point that will be made clear to you several times during your stay. I would like to give this 3.5, so went with 3 instead of 4. Pros: Five islands 2 room had amazing views of Valley Church beach. Great covered veranda for sitting and taking in views. King size bed comfortable. Most staff lovely. Nightly entertainment excellent. Cons: We booked a deluxe pool ocean view room and the plunge pool was not working on arrival and was never fixed during our 12 day stay. Water level was low and below jets. We Complained 3 times during our stay and all that happened was water level was topped up twice, but it just evaporated same day and level dropped down again. It never circulated properly as other plunge pools we saw on property. Our room ambassador not very helpful with this. She would just say ‘I’ promis maintenance come and look at it’. We paid considerably extra for a room with a pool. An issue I will have to take up with WestJet Vacations. Bathroom and room itself old and in a state of disrepair. Floor boards very creaky March 23rd from 6:30 to 7:00 am we had no water at all and neither did many of the other rooms around us at high levels. The previous week we were also without water. The light switches over the bed and most light switches are dirty. The wifi was extremely poor in our unit but worked well on Valley Church beach. This resort has clear preferences for people who book direct. They receive a fully stocked fridge with wine beer, soda. You will need to pay US$150 to stock your fridge when booking a package. The book direct rooms are updated and the vacation package rooms are quite run down. At the end of our stay, our room ambassador would not even help us find out when our taxi was coming (included with our package deal) because as she stated 'we had booked a package and not direct with hotel'. Amazing staff members who made the difference were: Treveisha - the girl with the golden smile, the amazing Yocasta, loads of fun Kerry, Denise - who feels like everyone's Mum, D-Reck - bartender extraordinaire and Kemlin - she will help you curate the most perfect excursion - she went above and beyond the call of duty.

Cocabay resort has the best location on the island. The staff is amazing. Everyone goes above and beyond to make the guests happy. The food is Delicious. So many beautiful beaches! Antigua is Paradise. Cocobay Resort is our home in Paradise.

My sweetheart and I decided to treat ourselves to a romantic getaway. We've never been to Antigua. It's such a beautiful island. We arrived around 2:30 pm.We had smooth check-in accompanied with strong welcome drinks. Not only was our room ready, but we received an upgrade. We were pleasantly surprised. We already booked a mid level pool suite. This upgrade makes it so much sweeter. This room also is a lot closer to dining and pool areas. The Waterfront Pool Suite has an amazing view. The beds were super comfortable. This cottage porch had a bear claw bathtub, hammock, sitting area, and a plunge pool. This is such a relaxing retreat. With no televisions in cottage, it allows for deep romantic time. We even indulged with a floating lunch at the Black Rock Pool. This is definitely worth the splurge of $120.00. We got complete privacy in our pool area. We received a bountiful basket of scrumptious food. It included salads, mac and cheese, chicken wings, wraps, succulent shrimp, an assortment of desserts, and your choice of wine or spirits. They serve it to you in your pool area, which consists of a table and chairs, and a daybed to relax with a dynamite view to enjoy for as soon as you wish. This was an immensely enjoyable vacation. It's worth the trip!!!
