Cavo Tagoo has a beautiful view and the room was nice and spacious, but unfortunately, that is where the positives end. The tone was off from the very beginning, no real greeting, no welcome drinks, and the girl who showed us to our room after check in couldn’t have been less engaged and was clearly bothered to have to do this job at all, explaining virtually nothing about the property or our room. So much so that I never figured out the elevators to get back down (they would only go up) to the lobby, so ended up using the stairs every time during our stay. We frequently stay 5-star hotels, and from the very beginning, my wife and I questioned that designation here. This hotel seems to only exist for the influencer community and not for any real luxury experience. The room was nice, with good water pressure and ample hot water. However, the bed and pillows were quite uncomfortable, and many things were in need of replacement and grungy - especially the cigarette burns on our patio lounger, and the weird stains on our sofa. The gym was old, which isn’t a deal-breaker, but all the equipment was gross and grimy, the treadmills looking like they’re never cleaned. The staff is some combination of woefully under-trained and completely apathetic. Most were rude or dismissive and very overt about asking for tips, ensuring to note that cash is preferred over room charge. They are typically too engaged in their phones or conversations with each other to even register your presence The food and drinks are decent, but outrageously overpriced for the quality. No complimentary water can be found on the property, except for the gym (go refill there). Room service carries a fee which isn’t unexpected, but they sneakily inflate all the regular menu prices on top of that fee. The hotel likes to post lots of drone footage of the property on social media, so be prepared to deal with the noise of a drone and feeling like you’re being spied on/filmed without your consent at any given point during the day. I had to pack up and move inside my room because I got tired of waiting for it to go away. We stayed at a couple other properties while in Greece and had an amazing experience with top-notch friendly, attentive staff, welcome drinks/gifts, and even a parting gift from our place in Santorini. I can’t say enough about how different our experience was here at Cavo compared to everywhere else. I ended up not tipping the front desk at checkout because why would I? Whether unrelated or not, we passed three bellhops on our way to the car who couldn’t even be bothered to look up from their phones to help with bags. I cannot recommend this place any less, especially for the prices it charges.
