For all the foodies, the Taste T&T festival this month is the place to be. Held in Hasely Crawford Stadium in the capital, Port of Spain, this culinary adventure consists of cooking demonstrations, wine and rum tasting, and of course, live music. The festival embodies all that Trinidad is famous for, its delicacies, alcohol and exotic music taste.
As one of the biggest and brightest festivals for the Indian community, Diwali is celebrated on a mass scale in both Trinidad and Tobago. Typically falling towards the end of the month, the nine days of events, stalls and shows are all in honour of Mother Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of light. At dusk, the streets are lit up with diyas (lamps), creating some of the most magical scenes across the islands.
Outside of the peak time to visit Trinidad and Tobago, there is still so much to see in October. Nylon Beach is the perfect spot for that romantic getaway this month. Away from the bustle, the shallow waters invite those seeking both adventure and relaxation. Accessible from the gorgeous Pigeon Point Beach, the getaway beach has a spectacular coral reef well worth exploring if snorkelling is on the list.
Escape the bouts of rain with a visit to the famous shopping centre, Trincity Mall. From souvenirs and food courts to street fashion and bookstores, a trip to the mall is a great day out to take a break from the October heat. For the bargains and a more authentic shopping experience, check out some of the outdoor markets and street vendors dotted through the city.
With the rain comes a spectrum of exotic plants and flowers. The fruiting trees are some of the best nature has to offer this month and are a wonderful photo opportunity for those nature enthusiasts. The Tobago Forest Reserve is one of the best places to capture this postcard-perfect view, whilst also meeting the local wildlife that calls this home.
Trinidad and Tobago sit outside of the hurricane belt which makes these some of the best islands to visit in the Caribbean this month. Expect hot temperatures of 31°C and lows of 21°C, with frequent tropical showers. October is a great month to explore the island or re-energise at the beach.
