Despite the wetter weather this month, the locals still manage to take another week out for the We Beat Festival. The event celebrates the rich diversity of backgrounds and cultures across the islands and fuses the different traditions and music to create this week-long festival one to remember. With a pan night, children’s shows and concerts showcasing various genres of music.
This is also the peak month to catch turtles nesting along the coastline of the islands, in particular, Stonehaven Bay in Tobago is a fantastic spot to sight the incredible creatures in action, if you are lucky!
Take advantage of the fewer crowds this month and head to Mayaro beach in Trinidad. Just off the east coast, this white sand, palm tree-lined paradise offers all you could need for a relaxing break from the bustle of the city. Secluded, scenic and abundant in wildlife, spend the day making the most of the activities available.
With the short bursts of rainfall, birds and wildlife are attracted to the island this month. If bird watching is on the list for you, head to Caroni Bird Sanctuary in Trinidad, a bird lovers paradise and the second largest mangrove in Trinidad. Having migrated from South America, look out for the Jabiru and Scarlet Ibis, two of the most popular species around this month.
As the temperatures remain high around 32°C with lows of 22°C, most are thankful for the short and refreshing downpours of tropical rain. The sea remains warm with temperatures of 28°C and the islands see an average of 8 hours of sunshine.
