Music is the beating heart of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and so music festivals are plentiful. In March, unite with the locals for Saint Vincent’s Blues and Rhythms Festival at the Emerald Valley Resort. The festival is spread over two days and is a tribute to the beautiful, soulful sounds of the Caribbean’s most cherished music genre.
On March 14th, Vincentians commemorate Chief Joseph Chatoyer, for their National Heroes Day. Chatoyer, commonly referred to as Satuye, was a pivotal figure in the war against British colonisation, fighting back against the oppression and enslavement of the indigenous Caribs. There is also a National Park in St. Vincent named after him that’s worth a visit.
The driest time of year, March travellers will relish a trip to the ocean-fed bathing pools of Owia Salt Pond. Located on the northeast coast of St. Vincent, saltwater spills organically into volcanic rock formations, creating a transcendent and therapeutic space.
Open from 9 am to 6 pm in the fishing town of Owia, be careful as you descend over 200 steps - don’t worry there is a handrail - to these natural pools. These natural forms are home to beautiful shoals of reef fish who may find your feet very appealing to nibble on. With a serene backdrop, sprayed with colliding waves, there is no better place to spend a whole day.
