On the 22nd of February, St Lucia celebrates St Lucia Independence Day. There are a variety of different events throughout the island which are often organised spontaneously, so it’s worth asking a local contact at your accommodation for advice. The International Food Fair, which takes place on the last Sunday of the month on Pidgeon Island, is a great opportunity to sample both local and international dishes from a range of St Lucian Chefs.
After the military parade and Prime Minister’s address, enjoy the friendly Carnival atmosphere as people head to the beach and bars to boogie while donning creative combinations of the colours of the St Lucian flag - yellow, blue, black and white.
St Lucia’s beautiful, pristine, sun-soaked beaches are undoubtedly one of the main factors in dictating a February visit. Nestled between the majestic Pitons, Sugar Beach is a stunning beach – complete with crystal waters and soft white sand lined by palm trees. The Anse Mamin beach adjacent to the luxurious Anse Chastanet is another quintessentially Caribbean beach where you can grab a rum punch from one of the local stalls while enjoying a glorious sunset. Both beaches are fantastic for snorkelling with a wealth of unmissable biodiversity to experience.
February is one of the least humid months to visit St Lucia, and the soothing breeze makes this month particularly good for activities such as hiking. We recommend heading to Pidgeon Island National Park and hiking up to Fort Rodney, an old military fort with fantastic views over Morgan Bay. Then, continue to Signal Peak where you can snap some shots of northern St Lucia, and catch a glimpse of Martinique in the distance. Finish your adventure with a well-earned meal at Jambe de Bois, a hidden oasis of Caribbean food, music and drink.
In February, St Lucia has an average temperature of 27°C, with highs of 29°C and lows of 23°C. There is a small chance of brief showers as St Lucia is a tropical climate, but the overwhelming forecast is sunny skies.
