From the 3rd to the 8th of February, the Pro Golf Tournament takes place on the 125 acres of the Royal St Kitts Golf Club. Positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, this golf club has immaculate fairways that are lined with sweeping coconut palms and a spectacular view of the rainforest-clad volcano of Mount Liamuiga. This event, known as St Kitts & Nevis Admiral’s cup, has been taking place for the past eight years, and mixes PGA club professionals and amateurs for a five-day team tournament, with a Pro-Am Division as well as an Amateur Division.
For something a little less sporty, the ‘Strip’, a collection of beach bars has risen in popularity in recent years. Open daily, the beach bashes in the sunlight transform into open-aired dance parties, pub crawls and moveable feasts at night. Within walking distance of St Kitts Marriot resort, the Strip is a popular destination for locals and visitors from all over the island. Take your time exploring each bar and sipping on their unique cocktails or grabbing a bite to eat. Make sure you do not miss Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack, arguably the most famous, and the most popular, bar on St Kitts.
February is the perfect time to explore the reefs that surround St Kitts. Arguably one of the best spots for those just getting into snorkelling is South Friars Bay. With a few places to get in – head towards Shipwreck beach bar and the reef is directly ahead of you, marked by buoys. Alternatively, get in further down the beach at Discovery beach bar, where the warm waters are shallow and there is a plethora of fish to spot. Both are great spots for nervous swimmers and beginners.
Leeward Island Charters, a snorkelling tour operator, offer snorkelling trips on two different ships and depart from Nevis. They last around three hours and lessons for inexperienced snorkellers are included as well as an open bar.
St Kitts and Nevis in February is one of the driest months and has an average temperature of 24°C with highs of 28°C and a low of 22°C. Sea temperatures can reach 26°C and are ideal for snorkelling and other water activities.
