On New Year's Eve, Mexicans celebrate Nochevieja (old night) which centres around saying goodbye to the old and welcoming in the new. It's a Mexican tradition to have a big dinner with family on the last day of the year. The most important dish is called Bacalao, which consists of dried salted codfish, olives and tomatoes.
Another well-known Mexican and Hispanic tradition focuses on eating grapes. It’s widely believed that eating 12 grapes, one for each month of the year, brings good luck for the new year. If you want to follow tradition, the grapes must be eaten within 60 seconds, and you should set an intention for every grape and month.
Another tradition which is thought to bring prosperity to the new year is to drink a glass of champagne with a ring in it. You must finish the drink, then hug someone in the room, and be sure to wish them a Feliz Año Nuevo! Happy New Year!
