Impossible to stray from; the beaches in Montego Bay harbour tranquil waters, a mattress of white-sandy beaches, and an abundance of tropical fishes. Dip your toes in Jamaica’s gentle waves; there is nothing better.
Just off the ‘Hip Strip’ of Gloucester Avenue, Doctor’s Cave had quite the reputation in the twenties, when people would travel hundreds of miles to experience its healing waters. It’s also famously pretty, with pale golden sands, palms and clear, calm sea. You usually have to pay a small entry fee for access via the Bathing Club (around 6 US dollars per person) where you’ll find gift shops, shower facilities and umbrellas and deckchairs to rent.
Great for: Private beach club, snorkelling, near restaurants & bars
Cornwall’s next to Doctor’s Cave – you can walk from one to the other – and a newer, quieter addition to the scene (but just as attractive). There was a Beach Club providing lockers, sun loungers and showers but more recently the Royal Decameron hotel has taken over the land.
Great for: Calm, clear waters, private beach, kayaking
This one mightn’t be miles long or overflowing with facilities, but that’s just what we like about it. Head to the end of Kent Avenue where you can stretch out on the sand and watch the planes zoom in and out of the airport. You might also hear it called Buccaneer Beach.
Great for: Local’s favourite, undeveloped
