Every year on Easter Monday, the Trelawny Yam Festival takes centre stage in Trelawny, a small mountain town in Jamaica. Thousands of Yam enthusiasts come together to celebrate the trendy root vegetable. It is a highly entertaining festival featuring Yam balancing races, the crowning of Yam King and Queen, music performances, and much more. You will have to see it to believe it!
Other popular events are taking place, a reggae music festival- The Western Consciousness and Jamaica’s only ‘off-road triathlon’.
April is the perfect month to take the Black River Safari tour, the guaranteed sunny weather and long days give you plenty of time to take on Jamaica’s longest river in search of crocodiles. These were once an endangered but now a protected species, this 90-minute boat safari will get you up and close with many crocodiles in their natural habitat, weaving through the mangroves.
