On the weekend prior to Christmas there’s the Carriacou Parang Festival - a music festival and competition for groups from Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Expect colour outfits and Christmas carols melded with a Caribbean flair. Carriacou is a separate island (the second-largest island of the chain), found to the Northeast of Grenada so you’ll need to fly (about 20mins but a more expensive choice) or jump on the ferry which takes around 90mins.
With the benefit of a year a round tropical climate, December is understandably popular for those escaping the dreary European weather for some sun and R&R over the festive period. As a result, you’ll want to book in advance. There are ample incredible options to anchor your stay, but if you’re looking to avoid the hustle and bustle Laluna Boutique Beach Hotel & Villas is a wonderful intimate resort, and the green globe-certified Blue Horizons Garden Resort is set across 6.25 acres of verdant tropical gardens and is home to 27 species of bird.
A holiday in December wouldn’t be complete without a bit of shopping. Check out the Arts and Craft Christmas Bazaar at True Blue Bay Resort. Make sure you try some black cake, a rum-soaked fruit cake and punch-a-crème, a spiced eggnog drink.
In December, Grenada has an average temperature of 26°C, with highs of 30°C and lows of 22°C. Average rainfall starts to decrease with an average of 180mm falling over 18 days in the month.
