Easily the biggest and best event of the year is Spicemas Festival Carnival. From Dimanche Gras through to J’Ouvert there’s something for everyone: Music lovers? Soca Monarch has become one of the headline events. Is culture more your speed? The national carnival queen show is for you. Live for theatrics? The Mas (traditional and fancy) parades and pageants are teaming with colourful devils. And that’s all accompanied by an incredible atmosphere.
If you’re in Grenada during Spicemas and want to fully immerse yourself stay around St George's. Outside of the festival, there's something to cater for all tastes (River Antoine Rum distillery is a highlight) but if a more tranquil, relaxed atmosphere is top of the list try a stay at Mount Cinnamon- billed as an ‘eco-lux hideaway’ where heritage meets modern. There’s also Spice Island Beach Resort where you can indulge in some rejuvenating beachside yoga or treatments at one of the Caribbean's finest spas.
For a quieter beach day, Morne Rouge Bay is a wonderful alternative to the busier areas with 1.5km of luscious white sand bordered by pure green seas. The Petit Anse hotel in the oft-overlooked North of the island is a little gem of tranquillity away from the madness too.
In August, Grenada has an average temperature of 27.5°C, with highs of 31°C and lows of 24°C. Like the other summer months, the chance of rain is relatively high with an average of 215mm falling over 18 days in the month.
