Things To Do in Varadero

Perhaps the most popular destination in Varadero, is Playa Varadero. This stunning stretch of shoreline is roughly 20km and has fine, white sand and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for water activities as its seabed is perfect for snorkelling and diving. You can also enjoy some beach volleyball when you’re not sunbathing, and with facilities offering rentals, you can partake in numerous sports such as water skiing and kite surfing.

Cayo Blanco is another stunning beach in Varadero with white sand and clear, turquoise water. Here you can enjoy many water activities including sailing and daily excursions in catamaran boats or sunbathe under lazy coconut trees that sway in the gentle breeze.

Plan a day with Coral Beach Diving club who specialise in scuba diving and snorkelling at beaches such as Play Coral. Whether you’re just picking up the hobby or you’re a confident diver, there are tours best suited to your ability that allow you to explore the colourful, tropical underwater world.

House of rum, also known as Casa del Ron is a new establishment but has already began making a name for itself in Varadero. With many visitors each year, it is quickly becoming a popular stop, and rightly so; you can learn the history of the most important (and popular) liquor in the country: rum. Your visit also includes a tasting of various rums.

Josone park is a beautiful green oasis amongst the architectural feat that is Varadero. Located close to the entrance of the town, it can be difficult to spot so keep your eyes peeled. It is another beautiful walk through a peaceful park, and you can even rent a small boat to cruise around the small lake that can be found in the middle of the park. There are also food and drink places available when you get hungry.

Cueva de Ambrosio is a large cave featuring 2000-year-old drawings. With an easy-to-follow path, self-guided tours take about 30-minutes.

Varadero street market is in downtown Varadero, and one of the best places to go if you’re looking to get gifts and souvenirs as a reminder of your amazing time spent in this beautiful city. Items range from small knick-knacks, leather goods, and travel essentials to paintings, and sculptures.

Varahicacos ecological reserve is a well-signed, clean woodland offering rare sightings of animal, bird, and insect species native to Cuba. There is also access to archaeological sites and caves and some spectacular views of the greenery that surrounds you. Do remember some bug repellent, water, and wear proper walking shoes as some of the trail can be difficult in other forms of footwear.

Cueva Saturno (Saturno Cave) is a popular attraction located 20 km west of Varadero, near Coral Beach. The centote is filled with crystal clear water that you can swim, snorkel and scuba in - there are two underwater caves that reach a depth of 20 meters! The natural wonder is full of striking stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors are free to snorkel or swim in the water, accessed by a series of staircases.
