Best Things To Do in British Virgin Islands

Discover one of the top diving sites in the Caribbean at the RMS Rhone shipwreck found in the Rhone Marine Park (the only one of its kind in the BVI!). Get your diving gear on and explore the largely intact coral-encrusted vessel. Swim along the colourful wildlife such as turtles, octopus and schools of snappers and parrotfish that now call the ship home. Moorings can be found a stone's throw away at Salt Island.

If you need a break from the glorious sun, sea and sand, head to the Sage Mountain National Park. The 96-acre park is the highest peak in all the British Virgin Islands, so prepare for some breath-taking views. Fancy a hike? choose from 12 trails through the forest, taking in the tropical wildflowers, hanging vines and rich mahogany trees. See if you can spot some gorgeous turtledoves too, as they are the official bird of the BVI.

One for the adrenaline junkies! Found in the northeast shore of Virgin Gorda is the major water sports centre of North Sound. Offering protected crystal-clear waters with plenty of anchorages for boaters. Every water sport imaginable is available for you here, from windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing and even glass bottomed boat trips to see the unmissable marine life found close to nearby islands.

Soak up some authentic Caribbean atmosphere at the Soper’s Hole Marina. Referred to as a former pirate’s den, the marina is an awesome landscape with candy-coloured traditional houses, shops and restaurants. Even though this marina is the centre of lots of activity, don’t worry it still holds that idyllic island charm you're after!

Don’t forget to pack your camera, as Anegada is an island surrounded by kilometres worth of reef creating an incredible spot for diving, fishing or ultimate relaxation. The national trust has protected the island from development, resulting in gorgeous untouched landscape of salt ponds, stunning wild orchids and flower-blooming cacti. Snorkel in the shimmering blue waters, home to reef mazes full of technicoloured marine life. Whist you're here, check out the unmissable conch shell mountains that will truly take your breath away.

The park (technically an island) is 243 acres big filled with emerald green cacti lining paths that lead to a dazzlingly white sandy beach. Don’t miss the awesome path starting at Sandbox bar to the top of the hill. Enjoy that cooling Caribbean breeze from the shade of the glossy palm trees and look out to all the beauty that lies below. Keep an eye out for those tropical birds too, American coots and blue-winged teals love this area almost as much as the travellers!

Found in the centre of the southern shore you will find the British Virgin Islands’ capital of Road Town. Famed for being the commercial hotspot for the entire territory, you will find gorgeous shops and buzzing eateries offering some awesome Caribbean hospitality. The British Virgin Island’s biggest cultural event and party of the year. Sometimes referred to as the August Carnival, these festivities commemorate the proclamation of August 1, that freed over 5000 slaves in the BVI. The 4-day extravaganza starts with the colourful construction of the festival village in Road Town, ready to be filled with authentic Caribbean food stalls and fabulous reggae band booths waiting to be played all night long. Walk the cobbled streets with the welcoming locals dressed in their biggest and best outfits and embrace the culture with both hands. Made from the purest sugar cane juice you could imagine, why not sample some tasty rum at the oldest continuously operated pot distillery in the whole Caribbean. The Callwood Distillery is just a stone's throw away from Tortola's gorgeous Cane Garden Bay and is thought to be an impressive 400 years old. Tours are available from March through August, and why not check out the museum and gift shop to take a taste of the BVI home with you. Nothing better than buying straight from the source, right?

The British Virgin Islands have made amazing efforts to rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017.
