Best activities in Bermuda for families

Snorkelling is a great activity to do, with plenty of reefs, and shipwrecks to explore, this is a fun way to spend your time together in Bermuda. The waters surrounding Bermuda are crystal clear making it easy for even beginners to explore the coral reefs searching for marine life. If you have older children, there are two dive boat companies (Dive Bermuda and Blue Water Divers & Watersports) that can take you to explore one of the estimated 300 ships on the seabed! A great spot for both snorkelers and divers is the Western Blue Cut, about an hour’s boat ride from the Royal Naval Dockyard.

The Railway Trail is a 20-mile-long trail and a great way to see the island, whether you walk or hire a bike. It is accessible all year round, and along the way, you can indulge in the culture and environment of Bermuda at your own pace.

Visit the Aquarium, Museum and Zoo where only animals that have been rescued and the habitats are maintained as like their natural habitat as possible. Animals that are either born into the zoo or are transferred from other zoos are released back into the wild when they are fit and healthy enough to do so. There is a guided tour who knows the ins and outs of the zoo and can even give fun facts about different animals including the fact that flamingos are the only animal to remain outside during a hurricane; they stand in a single file beside a tree from largest to smallest and rotate with the wind as it shifts direction.

Best destinations in Bermuda for families

Along the south shore, the sand on the beach is pink due to seashells mixing with sea life, especially foraminifera which is a dark red organism that grows abundantly on the bottom of Bermuda’s coral reefs. Horseshoe Bay is one of the finest examples of its pink sand beach and is in the parish of Southampton. This is one of the most popular beaches so it could be busy, but it is also one of the few beaches that has multiple facilities enabling visitors a comfortable day at the beach. There is a popular beach bar, known as the Rum Bum Beach Bar, that serves tasty cocktails as well as food and Gulfstream offers Italian food. There are also bathrooms, beach gear rentals and lifeguards in the summer.

The Royal Naval Dockyard is at the furthest most westerly point of Bermuda but deserves a full day of exploring. It even hosted Americas Cup a few years ago! It’s an area with rich, immersive history, and fortress style stone walls as well as a clock tower that’s been turned into a mall. Whilst the original architecture has been preserved, behind each building lies the modern twist including shopping centres, cafes, restaurants, and bars. There is also a rum cake factory and a glass blowing workshop. On top of that, there is also crazy golf, a course ideal for kids and a playground to keep them entertained.
