With sun-drenched shores, scenic stretches of beautiful beaches and an enveloping feeling of paradise, Eleuthera is a little piece of paradise. You can be an explorer, investigating Preachers Cave, or test your bravery along the glass window Bridge with spectacular views, or relax in the Queen’s Baths among the fish and pretty shells. There's a never-ending list of things to do and see in Eleuthera, but here are some of our favourite things that you cannot miss out on!
The Eleutheran Adventures are thought to have taken refuge here after being shipwrecked. They created an alter from a boulder and held Christian services here – hence the name. The huge cave is quite something (go all the way in to see the natural sky lights), and there’s a lovely beach nearby for post-exploration picnics.
Positioned on the narrowest bit of the island, cliffs drop into the Atlantic on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other. A manmade bridge puts you in a spectacular vantage point.
Get a guide to show you around the preserve, where you’ll come across native and medicinal plants, tropical trees and mangroves. There are several trails, featuring a mangrove boardwalk and a waterfall. Hike up to the Ethan’s Tower lookout point, where you get 360° sights over the greenery and the ocean.
Below the cliffs, a little south of Glass Window Bridge, rock pools have been formed by Atlantic waves over eons. In calm conditions and at low tide (rough sea and high tide are no-goes), it’s possible to go down for a bath like no other – accompanied by fish and shells in sun-warmed water.
Torches at the ready for this spectacular, mile long cathedral cave, with its stalagmites, stalactites and ancient cave drawings. Local guides provide tours, which is the best way to experience it.
A blue hole south of Rock Sound that seems to be completely bottomless, where you can swim in the healing brackish waters among turtles and fish.
Oceanview Farm in Governor’s Harbour provide morning horseback riding on the beaches, along lakes and over forested hillsides.
