Love being impulsive and leaving plans until the last minute? Then why not head to Aruba for the perfect, impromptu holiday. Just over a nine-hour flight away from the UK and blessed with a host of fun activities, sandy white beaches and glorious sunshine, and maybe most importantly; fantastic deals. This stunning Caribbean island is the ideal destination for a spontaneous holiday to Aruba.
Although Aruba is a very desirable holiday destination all year round, we highly recommend booking your last minute trip between the months of June and October, as this is classed as the low season. If you manage to miss the school holidays, then during the low season, the island is a lot quieter compared to peak season; meaning there is plenty more availability at hotel resorts and on excursions. There are also lots of great deals to be snatched up during this period with hotels dropping their room rates.
Booking a last minute holiday means that you aren’t always guaranteed to find a space on every exertion or activity. Therefore it’s a good idea to be aware of free and fun activities that you can participate in that you don’t need to book.
Head down to the capital city, Oranjestad, where you can check out all the great bars, restaurants and shops that are on offer. Every Tuesday, there is a local dance and music show called the Bon Bini Festival, held at Fort Zoutman; Oranjestad’s oldest building.
Alto Vista Chapel, officially known as ‘Our lady of Alto Vista’, isn’t one to miss. This beautiful, vibrant coloured chapel is the oldest on the island and is open every day between 5 pm to 7 pm and a mass is held there every Tuesday. This is the perfect slice of history.
If you want an opportunity to take some amazing photos of the island, then a visit to the California lighthouse is a must. Being one of Aruba’s most notorious landmarks, the lighthouse is a big attraction for many tourists. This 100 ft tall building provides some of the most stunning views that can be found on the island.
