Weather in Thailand during school holidays

February Half Term

Temperatures remain warm in February, averaging 33°C. Short rain showers tend to occur, but sunshine is pleasant soon after. If you're around for Chinese Lunar New Year, get in on the Chinese heritage magic with its glittering processions, fireworks and sizzling food stalls.

Easter

April is one of the hottest months of the year in Thailand, with a maximum temperature of 34°C in Bangkok. April is an ideal month to visit the islands of Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Pha Ngan, Phuket and Krabi, which offer idyllic conditions for water sports, with warm temperatures and calm waters. Songkran usually takes place during this period, giving you the chance to cool off with the age-old tradition of national water fights taking place all over the country! Many hotels and resorts organise Easter festivities for their guests, such as egg hunts and Sunday brunches.

May Half Term

The warm weather of April continues into May, but Thailand's tropical climate means that rainfall can intensify during this month. May is considered the transition month between winter and summer. It's the ideal time to take advantage of lower prices and bargains.

Summer

In Thailand, the summer months between June and August coincide with the low season, and it's not for nothing that it's called 'low'. The humid climate brings monsoon winds and large amounts of rainfall, all under temperatures that can reach 40°C. Unless you have a wild spirit, it is not recommended to visit the country during this period, as many visitors find the climate unpleasant.

October Half Term

Like May, October is an in-between month that offers ideal conditions for visiting Thailand. The weather remains warm, with less humidity and variable rainfall, and the sun is out for a relaxing stay. October is also the Holy Grail for last-minute holiday deals!

Christmas & New Year

Stay warm over the festive season and escape the January blues by visiting Thailand. December and January are arguably the best months to visit, with long hours of sunshine and very little rainfall, as these are the driest months of the year. Palm-fringed beaches and epic jungle valleys await with mouth-watering celebrations. Pop a bottle of champagne and ring in the New Year in style! It's advisable to book in advance if you're travelling between December and January, as the festive season coincides with Thailand's peak season.
