We flew with Qatar Airlines from BHX to MLE via DOH, our trip arranged by Caroline at stylishresorts.com. Thanks to both for a great service. Our seaplane transfer to Amilla with Manta Airways was smooth, improved by great staff at Male airport and a comfortable Amilla lounge at the seaplane terminal, where we completed the resort check-in. The 35 minute flight landed at nearby Kihavah, and we were collected by Amilla staff and ferried for the 10 minute ride to the resort. The greeting was friendly and efficient, and on arrival we were introduced to Samail, our butler, and given a tour of the island and taken directly to our "home". We chose Amilla on the basis of recommendations, and we were expecially intrigued by the Treetop Pool suites. We had #804, which in our view was perfect. The 2 bed/2 bathroom suites are very large and come with all the facilities you'd expect in a 5* property. The pool is c8m long, far larger than the "plunge pool" you find in many properties, and has an outside shower. The outside deck spans the width of the property (pool in the centre) with sunbeds one side and a table & chairs the other, and is not overlooked at all and mostly invisible from the ground. The deck is shaded much of the day, but the large resort pool deck and beach provide ample scope for full-sun. Rooms come with bicycles, and the island pathways are well maintained. Snorkelling gear is provided free from the dive centre, and there are regular free supervised trips to The Blue Hole, on the edge of the house reef. Our room attendant (Shahadat) was friendly and efficient, with the room being prepared while we breakfasted each day - 10/10. Amilla features a generous buffet breakfast, including local and international options. Lunch can be taken in-villa (we did not use this option) or at one of two restaurants, with a wide range of choices. For dinner there are four options: Japanese, modern International, Indian and Greek & Asian. We tried all and none disappointed. Wine-by-the-glass starts at $11, beers are similar (slightly limited choice, no Guinness or craft beers), cocktails $18+. Remember these prices have 26% added (at most if not all Maldivian resorts- 10% service charge, 16% govt tax). Bottled wine starts from $70. We suggest budgeting $500 per day for F&B. The spa offers a wide range of services, we enjoyed a great deep tissue massage. There is a sauna & steamroom, and a very well equipped pair of gym, one for strength and one for cardio. One of the best things about Amilla is the service - the staff are incredibly friendly and it's great to see managers mucking in with service when needed. As well as our butler and housekeeper, special mention goes to Mani, Sarojini, Icy, Yaya, Yamo, Ayya and Kauser, who looked after us well at the beach. We would love to return to Amilla and wholeheartedly recommend the resort. BUT... it appears that the resort is being sold to the Melia Group (effective April'25) and there are plans to radically change the resort, with additional accommodation being added. The big challenge to Melia will be to make these changes without destroying the wonderful characteristics which the resort currently have.
