We stayed at the Akti Imperial for 7 nights from 27th July 2024 - 2 adults, a 15 year old and a 12 year old. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday and as with most stays there was some good and some bad. The hotel itself is large (9 floors) although long rather than tall so not imposing however compared to many 5 star hotels lacks the wow factor from the outside. The inside is spacious with modern decor and, importantly, clean. We all shared a room which was air conditioned, had 2 bedrooms, a decent size bathroom with shower and the largest balcony we have ever had. Also a mini fridge which was restocked every day with bottled water, wine, cans of lager and soft fizzy drinks (all free). We were on the top floor (9th) however the lifts were well organised and extremely efficient - 3 specific lifts for floors 7-9, 2 for floors 5-6 and 3 for floors 1-4 meaning even at peak times we had to wait no more than a couple of mins and weren’t constantly stopping at other floors. The hotel itself including the restaurant and bars doesn’t appear to have air conditioning- it must have some sort of cooling as was not as warm as outside but certainly didn’t have the cold of an air conditioned hotel so did get quite stuffy especially on an evening. Food - if stopping longer than a week I imagine it would be very ‘samey’ and does lack the ‘wow’ factor- no show cooking or themed nights. There are 5 a la carte restaurants that are included but you need to book - book as soon as you arrive and via guest relations as we tried the app you are supposed to use within a few hours of arriving and all stated were fully booked for the length of our stay!! I visited guest relations who were extremely helpful and booked us into the ones we wanted - the menus in all are set menus - no choices - and quite niche in some cases however we tried the asian restaurant which was amazing with numerous courses served to the table. A really good experience as well as lovely food. We didn’t try the others as we all didn’t like the food on the menus so cannot comment. Breakfast - usual fare you would expect in any hotel with the advantage that late breakfast (after 10:30) was served in the lobby bar. Omlettes cooked to order and fresh pancakes. The buffet restaurant is also open at lunch time however we ate at the 2 pool bars which serve a variety of food from 10-6 each day. Stone baked pizzas made in proper pizza oven in one - shout out to the pizza king (unfortunately didn’t get his name) who made pizzas 12-6 every day we were there in the extreme heat - his pizzas were a big hit with us. Burgers and hot dogs also served from 4pm with chips all day along with other mains options and salads. The other pool bar did similar food but greek gyros instead of pizza which were also amazing. Evening meals in buffet restaurant- water and wine served to table and plenty of choice although samey - pizza, pasta, grilled chicken, chips and other mains (chicken chasseur one night was really tasty) and there was a large queue for the tempura prawns the night they were on. lots of choice with desserts. Drinks - locally brewed beer (self serve) although did seem quite ‘flat’ most of time; water from dispensers; soft drinks and wine including sparkling wine; spirits appeared to include some ‘names’ - baileys was available. Cocktail menu large but disappointingly not freshly made - rather poured out of bottles so the few we tried lacked any real taste. Bars open until late/early hours which was great. Lobby bar served drinks in glasses - pool bar used a combination of hard plastic reusable/washable glasses but mainly paper cups which in todays world seems rather bizarre as the bins were full of these single use cups. Entertainment - Day; Hotel employs own entertainment staff who did plenty of activities throughout the day (same each day) although bizarrely no activities on a saturday. Water polo, water volleyball, aquarobics, boules, table tennis, darts, football with separate sessions for teenagers and adults. Pool not particularly designed for these activities so that area of pool was constantly in use throughout the day but plenty of space elsewhere. Entertainment - Night; The layout of the main stage is bizarre - outside which is great but facing pool meaning only 2 rows of seats before you had to sit on the sun loungers to watch the entertainment. Not conducive to a good night sitting as a family. We watched the greek dancing and magician (sound was terrible for the latter so felt sorry for the guy as by the end no-one taking much notice as couldn’t hear what he was saying so no applause)The other pool bar has a more chill out vibe on an evening with 4 nights of different bands playing a range of music and a saxophonist. We preferred this as could get seats at a table, table service for drinks and nice chill vibe. Only criticism is that drinks are initially served in glasses but even though this bar open til 12 - they started serving in paper cups at 10:30!!! Sparkling wine in a paper cup doesn’t taste the same!! I understand the need to make sure all glass is removed before the bar closes (and they do come round half hr before close to transfer drinks into paper cups) but 10:30 is too early. Swimming Pools - An adults only pool (though children were also in it throughout the day) a kids splash pool with slides and a long winding main pool split over 2 levels with a small slide between. Pools clean- did get busy each day for a short period but it is peak summer so would expect it. Short taxi ride from Rhodes Town which is well worth a visit. Sunbeds - need to be up very early to ‘reserve’ a bed (7:30) though did nite hotel staff removing towels c9am if noone using the beds and they been unused all morning. Beach just over road (nice beach bar part of all inclusive) and plenty of beds there no need to reserve- only criticism is no toilet so need to go back to hotel to use. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend for adults and families with older children.
